A bleary-eyed morning all. It was very hot and humid last night and also very breezy. Couldn't get to sleep and was padding around at 2.30am wedging doors open to stop them slamming shut.

This morning it's overcast and feeling quite cool. Except it's not. It's actually 22C - amazing how quickly the body acclimatises to the higher temps. Forecast to be another warm (but not extreme) one later.

The house really could do with a good clean. Surfaces are very dusty and covered in thrips after having so many windows and doors open - but that is for another day.
Finished all accounts and yesterday I completed and submitted 3 tax returns after a SM run. My brain was positively throbbing after that lot and I, therefore, declare today to be a day of rest.
A couple of very light tasks this morning and then sit and read my book - possibly outside - possibly in the recliner in the shade - possibly with a choc ice - possibly with a glass of something nice. My eye lids may rest for a while....

Chive - when do you actually finish work? I think some schools round here break up today. For the children at least - perhaps the teachers are in for the rest of the week.

OH is away to Dorset for racing. Not the best weekend to be heading for the West Country. I think he's leaving either late this evening (he has a quiet wild-camp spot at the back of Tescos in Aldershot which gets him past the M25) or early Thurs morning in an attempt to miss the great summer holiday rush.

Rubee - good to hear OH has his stockings and they seem to be doing some good. I hope he's more comfortable now the heat is subsiding a little.

SGL & Hazel - hope you both get some better nights the next few days. Awnings and gazebos sound like a good idea. This is one of the few times I'm glad that all our major rooms (including our bedroom) face due north - at least they've remained in the shade throughout.

LB - hope the VM work doesn't cause any problems and your plants don't have heat stroke.

Hope the rest of you stay cool and rested.

    Morning all.

We had a huge storm in the night, needn't have done any watering yesterday. At least it has shown that there isn't a leak in the dining room roof. I've polished the table several times and the water traces have gone. There was a power cut but the leccy was on when we woke this morning.

@Ladybird4 I had an email from Mrs P recently but she didn't didn't mention Caesar the donkey, just their new house.

We are going to the SM today, need groceries.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Good morning Chive, Ruby, T'Bird and Busy. Well smug face here - I have fettled the ivy on the front wall. I disturbed quite a few lovely moths and some big black spiders but I saw that they were all safe. The cat that Lily had the barney (Ante = noisy fight) with trotted round to the front of the house and lay under the bird feeder there watching what I was doing. The temperature was lovely for working in and the green bin is now full and ready for collection tomorrow. All I hope for now is the promised rain.
Hazel, I like the sound of your awning. It will be like having an outside room that you will be able to use all year round when the weather is kind. Even to shelter you whilst doing the hot metal stuff!
Well done T'Bird on getting the tax returns done. You definitely deserve that rest in the shade now. I do not envy your OH that trip to Dorset but he may just miss the summer holiday frenzy leaving when he plans.
Busy, I hope that you find all that you need in the SM.
p.s. speaking of hair I have an appointment for tomorrow morning. I am hoping that the Arriva bus strike does go over into Friday as it is Canasta day. I go on the Bus as the car parking is very limited and it doesn't cost me anything on the Bus.

Does or doesn't go over LB?

Well done on doing the ivy. It's starting to get too warm for energetic duties here - forecast to be about 30C later - definitely shade weather. Still very breezy - glad I have plenty of door wedges - they were banging all over the house just after we went to bed last night.

Well spotted T'Bird! I usually check my posts for howlers but some sneak through.
I did mean 'doesn't' about the Arriva strikes. Yes, its getting warmer here now. Front wall faces West so it was nice and shaded whilst I worked. I wouldn't consider doing what I was doing this morning in the afternoon.

  • LB well done for your battle with the ivy.  It sounds like your visiting cat is really enjoying your garden, hope Lily doesn’t find outl. Attended the surgery with dad am, he had two appmt, one with nurse and then doc, do hope he’ll be more comfortable this evening.  We frogged to sm to get some essentials.   Hazel love the awning it will help things to be cooler.  Chive temps still quite high today glad to be outside.  Lily baked some bread for tea, just cooling my feet.   Top bird reward yourself with something refreshing after completing the tax returns.  Ante try and keep cool, hope yoyre having something delicious for dinner.

Hazel - that is fantastic! Love it! Hasn't your son done a good job? I'll bet you are as pleased as punch with it.

Afternoon everyone,  It's really hot again this afternoon.  There's a slight breeze, but it's warm
@Topbird how on earth did you manage to do all that paperwork in yesterday's heat 🥵🥵
Could I ask, what are Thrips🤷‍♀️
@Busy-Lizzie bet your garden looks and smells beautifully fresh after all the rain.
@Songbird-1 love the awning,  great colour. Will be lovely sit outside with a cup of tea or breakfast  etc. Nice when you have the doors open and you're inside too.  Well done Hazel's son.

Thrips are teeny tiny flies - sometimes called thunder flies SGL.
Hello there Rosie. Good to see you this afternoon. Lovely baked bread smell coming from your kitchen!

Thank you @Ladybird4 haven't heard of those before. Is it an expression  from certain areas or are they called Thrips?
