Sorry to hear you're not feeling well Hazel - hope it passes quickly.
Ante - I'm also sorry to hear about the loss of your vegetables. It must be quite soul destroying and upsetting for you.
Would electric fencing be feasible (or even possible) to help the situation? Do you know how other farmers / smallholders* deal with the problem? You're unlikely to be the only one affected.
Very jealous to hear some of you have had rain. I'm about to water in the front garden. The full impacts of the heatwave are starting to show as leaves crisp and fall and there may be some permanent damage. Desperate for water now and none at all in the forecast.
* @Ante1 - I hope you're not offended by the use of the term smallholder and smallholding? A smallholding in the UK refers to land used to grow fruit and vegetables (often commercially) and sometimes to rear a few animals and poultry. It is a lot bigger than a domestic garden but not quite as big as a farm. I think that is what you have but if it's a bigger concern I apologise.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Hi folks,ย Nice and cool here with a fair bit of rain so the garden will be happy.ย Sorry about the damage to your crops @Ante1 I hope the new plantings thrive.ย Sorry the lack of buses has spoilt your plans LB.ย Could be worse, you could be stuck in Dover. I'm packing this evening for a trip to Saundersfoot with Secondborn and the boys, just for a few days, we will back on Wednesday.ย We have bookedย a nice flat right by the beach.ย ย Hope a trip to the sea will help clear the remnants of this cold it seems to be lingering.ย Hope you feel better soon Hazel.
SGL, when I had hair like that it was before mobile phones and decent cameras and my hair was brown and red rather than blonde and violet, It was very much a Rod Stewart cut. I had a real laugh visualising you on a pogo stick sorting out the spiders webs. Glad to hear you have had rain perhaps T'Bird may get some soon. Fingers crossed for her.
T'Bird, I think Ante mentioned an electric fence a few pages ago. Did your OH get off ok yesterday?

Hello Yvie, you snuckered in there. You are right, being stuck in Dover must be a nightmare for people. Have a lovely break and I hope that you will have a paddle in the sea. Safe journey.

Glad you had a nice visit to the GC today with your friend and tea & cake sounds lovely,ย Topbird Hope your OHs journey to Dorset went smoothly and the overnight stop worked out well,ย Yvie Have a lovely time with secondborn and the boys at the seaside, hope the change of air helps to clear the rest of your cold away,ย Have a nice evening everyone.ย
T'bird, no need to apologizes, because I'm am a smallholding. We have similar term, OPG - small family holding. I have electric fence, but when they are desperate they try everything to get in. Last few years the number of deers and boars groves rapidly.
Hazel, I'm sorry to hear that you don't feel well. Hope you will be better.
I'm glad to hear that some of you had rain. No rain on sight here, and its still very hot. Tomorrow will be the hottest day this summer. We can expect temperatures around 40โ. I feel very tired and drained, and must have rest tonight. Tomorrow will drive my sister on the airport. She has flight at 11pm.
Hello Chive. The blue bins are still lined up along both sides of the lane like a guard of honour. I am leaving mine until tomorrow now but if it is not emptied then I'll retrieve it until next time. It is one of the bins that I don't mind leaving.
Ante, I hope that you manage to get a rest tonight. Your sister's visit seems to have gone by very quickly.
I am signing out for tonight so enjoy your evenings. See you all tomorrow.

I hope that you are all feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning. Sorry to have to mention this but it absolutely hammered down here last night and continued to rain through the night - though not this morning. Last chance for leaving blue bin out as well.
I hope that Hazel is feeling less muzzy headed this morning; that Yvie's cold becomes a memory as she starts her break today, and that everyone has a fun filled day whatever they have planned.
