Hello all. Well due to teeming rain I decided to do a quick trip to 'sco. Big mistake as I hadn't realised they were doing massive road works in the village - traffic light controlled - so I got stuck in a long trail back of people heading for work. It was better on the way home as the early morning rush had dissipated.
SGL, don't forget to take the picture along to show your hairdresser how you want your hair! Bet you had a fab time with Poppet 3.
Ante I was really sad to hear of your worries about one of your little furry friends. I do hope that he is OK and its just the hot weather that has caused his loss of appetite. Darn Tourists! PITA
Hazel, good to see you back and to hear you and your OH are recovering. I think a lot of gardeners are in the same position as you. My Katsura has declared its Autumn already.

Rosie, I too hope that these new painkillers work for your Dad and that he can get some decent sleep. Lily was fast asleep when I got back from 'sco but soon woke up as I was bustling around. She then went and sat by the back door giving me the 'Please open the door for me' look. After all when the slave is around and only too happy to do that menial task for her, why should she use her cat flap? Tell you what, it was the fastest pee in the west as she was in and out before I could blink! A glass of port sounds very decadent Rosie - but delicious.

Precis: Garden is brown - no rain for months, exceptionally high temps (31C yesterday) and strong, hot, dessicating winds last 3 days have taken their toll. Very disheartening. Also nervous about field fires in the area. We are surrounded by fields of grass and cereals and lots of trees - all tinder dry.
Ante - sorry to hear your furry friend is below par. Hope it's just the heat or something relatively simple like a bad tooth.
LB - IME cats like their staff to do the donkey work. I may have been a cat in a previous life...
Learned a delicious new word this morning - 'Loblolly' - as in loblolly boy. It refers to ship's surgeons assistant on the old tall sail ships. Can also be used as a derisory term. I may try it out at some time.
Came across it in a book I am thoroughly enjoying - 'The Girl in His Shadow' by Audrey Blake. It's a historical fiction set in early Victorian London and centres around a woman working (illegally) in medicine. Can't put it down - love a book like that - and it makes a change from my usual murder / detective novels!🙂

I came home around 5 pm, but was beyond tiredness and went to sleep a bit. My cat stayed at vet. He has broken rib and he is a bit dehydrated. It will be fine, but must stay there at least four days. Here is still unbearable hot. It was 38℃, and I can't handle it anymore, physically and mentally. Now I have a lot of ice tea and ice cream.
Good evening everyone. Love the new word T'Bird. Going to slip that one up my sleeve for a suitable occasion. I often hesitate to recommending books but here is one (8 books in total in the series) that has kept me totally riveted for several weeks. Its by an author called Mick Herron and the series is known as the Slough House Series. Basically it is about a group of inept spooks from MI5 who have stuffed up on various 'tasks' and they get transferred to desk jobs in Slough House where they are controlled by a completely repugnant boss - who nonetheless looks after them all. Inevitably they do get sucked into activities and it gives an amazing insight into how spies may operate. Apparently it has been made into a TV series with Gary Oldman playing the awful boss - Jackson Lamb. I was sorry when I had finished the final book as I enjoyed it so much. The first book in the series is called 'Slow Horses' - derived from Slough House - which is how the characters working there are known.
You may enjoy those books as your next read T'Bird.
Chive, it must have been lovely for you and your Mum to spend the day together. Very relaxing for you as you didn't have to scoot off to work.

Oh Ante - I'm so sorry to hear of your cat's injury - it does sound like something has happened to him. Fingers crossed he'll be ok and chasing mice again soon.
I can only empathise with your high temps, lack of rain and deer damage - totally disheartening and debilitating for both you and your crops. I hope you all survive the summer. Please try to remember that your own well being should come first.
