    Hello All.

I got up early and did some weeding, then we went to visit a garden. I think it's the last one in this area this year. It was an old manor house that had been renovated by an English couple. They had worked very hard on hard landscaping, terraces, steps, courtyard garden, but the main garden could have done with some more planting. Probably not finished yet and what they'd done was very good. The cakes were lovely, moist and flavoursome, had orange and almond, and chocolate brownie.

Those pies look delicious @Pat E but I am imagining them with veggies inside as I can't bear fish!
Thanks for the suggestion @Lizzie27 - that's not the one I had in mind but it is worth considering.

We had a lovely evening last night - a local chap (who is Spanish) is starting a new business - Toto's Tapas - in town and booked the local theatre for a tapas evening.  It was our wedding anniversary so we booked a table with the family and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Dish after delicious dish came out.  Every table was packed (and lots of other friends there too) and we gave Antonio a big round of applause at the end.  He had decorated the theatre with fans, shawls and, in the entrance, a wonderful flamenco dress, beautifully displayed.

Nice to catch up with my daughter too, as hadn't seen her for a couple of weeks. But she had a child in her class who has recently opened up to her about her home life - not at all loving, massive rows between the parents and the child mentally abused.  All of the safeguarding training all of the staff have undergone has gone out of the window with the head not taking this as seriously as she ought and no support for my daughter who is bearing the burden of this poor child's suffering alone in the school.  My daughter did manage to persuade the head to have a social worker interview the child - but was not invited to be part of that interview and the head herself didn't attend either.  Nor did she present any of the disturbing drawings the child had drawn to the social worker.  I have advised my daughter to escalate this.  Red flags everywhere but being ignored.

Right - time to get the house cleaned up so that we can flop about on Monday and Tuesday without having to worry about hoovering.   And tonight - a drink for my poor friend who died this week.

That sounds a really good evening @didyw.  That happened with my daughter too, in France, her first teaching job. Headmistress wasn't interested, in the end my daughter went to the Gendarmes and something was done.

Forgot to mention - it's the 11th anniversary of our Blessing today. Didn't go to the Mairie, had a friend vicar instead do a ceremony in front of our families, in France.

Meant to say in my above post @didyw - happy anniversary for yesterday, should have been just after the first sentence.

Happy anniversary to you too @Busy-Lizzie!  Our next milestone is 30 years, next year.  That's pearl I believe.  I have assured OH that I can easily make something myself - I have quite a stash of pearls from when I was making jewellery.  And last night my eldest granddaughter was wearing hers, from when she was a bridesmaid at my niece's wedding a few years ago.  I made pearl necklaces for the bride and all her bridesmaids - even the toddler!
Have just been looking at buddleias online after looking at another thread. But just don't have the room.

Evening all, Happy Anniversaries @didyw and @Busy-Lizzie.

I had hoped to visit my daughter this weekend as she had a special garden visit planned but we postponed because of the heat. I'm rather relieved as I don't cope very well any more with this kind of weather. No doubt it's an age thing.

We enjoyed a light lunch out with friends at a canalside country pub but were glad when we got back home just to sit inside with some curtains drawn, fan on and lots of cuppas.
Earlier, I'd got up and watered more pots and then put the parasols over the newish potted roses - am I crackers or not!! First bloom on new rose 'Elizabeth' was out this morning, a beautiful very pale pink.

Hope everyone copes well with the heat, we don't intend to do anything for the next few days.
