These two have opened fully today. The bees are going crazy over the small ones, much as I like the “fancy” ones I get more enjoyment from watching the bees on the simple varietys.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.
I didn't know the bees did it on flowers they couldn't get pollen or nectar from. It's literally just a hotel for naps, offering berths where you sleep with your arse in air.
Ah, yes. My dahlias are the worst for losing their labels. Within days of potting them on, the sticks were gone. Which is irritating.
I made a great effort to write instructions for myself on sticks last winter, for each pot, so that I knew which needed a bigger pot next year, which to give away etc. When I came to do the work in spring, nearly the labels were gone - vanished - never to be seen. I don't really have blackbirds, not having any lawn; at least I rarely see them. I don't see the pots getting mussed and dug up. Are the foxes eating them? I don't see chewed sticks or broken sticks either.
But for sure I am going to have to have a system of tying on signs. Most of my dahlias look the same and I can't guess which is which until they flower.
I find that white plastic labels are not removed with the same alacrity as the ice cream sticks by the blackbirds. So it is going to be plastic labels from now on. Btw, it is a she. 😊 Dahlia Moonlight is doing well in the ground.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
