Nothing much happening for me. This is my first time growing dahlias (after seeing the Dahlia Beach stand at last year's Chelsea Flower Show). I only have two, both from Sarah Raven.
On the right is Cornel, ordered as a tuber which arrived in mid-March — I potted it up immediately and it has grown well on my bathroom window. Pinching has produced three or four large stems.
On the left is Nicholas, ordered as a plant in a 3L pot as tubers were out of stock. It was delivered end of May and I thought it might arrive about the same size as Cornel... They packaged it well enough but it was a little squished into the compost.
Both are now in their final pots outside; I gave them a liquid seaweed feed yesterday. Probably Nicholas will take a while before budding.
The "Mignonne Mixed" I sowed last year that came free in GW magazine have been flowering for a couple of weeks now (at least those in pots that overwintered in the greenhouse; the ones I left in the ground overwinter are still a few weeks off flowering).
For Bishop of Llandaff (overwintered under glass), only one of my 6 plants has a flower spike & bud which looks ready to open.
Nice thread. Marking my place Of about 13 dahlia seedlings, a whopping three have survived the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, and there are two from tubers, the horribly-named Thomas Edison and the wonderfully-named Night Butterfly, which means something very different in Russian, quite a way off flowering yet.
Mine are slow to get out the blocks this year. I was a bit later potting them up than last year and starting them in the conservatory at the old house (vs the outdoor growhouse I have now) must have made a big difference.
2 months since I've potted them and they're varying from 8-10inches of growth to shoots just emerging.
A selection of mine - some have just started flowering. Dahlegria Bicolore getting crowded out by a mystery dahlia: This beaut is Sincerity - I love ones like this but I've tried to limit myself as they're not pollinator friendly! Wishes n dreams Last year's seeds
Most of mine are looking good. I have around 30 different types this year. Some are in beds (daring, but there seem to be fewer Iberian slugs around this year), most in pots. Started a thread earlier today regarding one poorly-looking one - not sure what is going on there. They never flower until very late July here, sometimes not until August, but well worth the wait!
