I haven't taken cuttings, my dahlias are seedlings. No sign of flowers yet, but they look like they're growing fast. Have had to drench a few plants with a water jet that was literally covered in blackfly, it looked like they had black stems.
Looking forward to seeing some beauties on this thread
My own earliest are a few weeks off from flowering. A (new to me) species type has just started leafing. I'm trying some tree dahlias for the first time this year, just for the height and foliage, really, little hope of blooms. Excited to try and grow an annual forest. 😊
I have given split up and given away my Rip City, so now have good space to try new types.
I’m suffering from slug damage, well I’m not but several of my plants are. They were pot raised and then planted out…annoyingly the varieties worst affected were new purchases this year. Two in particular are reduced to skeletons. I’ve put some “ My Love” a white cactus variety in large tubs, they’re showing flower buds.
Got 1 in flower, not sure how I feel about the petals, also I’m having to wage war with vine weevil who apparently love munching on the buds. The others are growing well but no sign of flowers yet.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.
'Creme de Cassis' just starting to open up. Planted last year and forgot to lift, but it overwintered in my marginal climate just fine. I hope it performs as well as it did last year. I had continuous blooms from June until November!
This one feels like cheating as I just bought it and it's still in its nursery pot. 'Hypnotica Lavender.'
If anybody has any tips on how to take good close-ups without the fuzzy halo around the flower edges, I'm eager to learn!
@Fire, yes. Auto-focus won't ever focus at such a close distance, and the macro/flower setting gives the halo effect. I suppose I should just step back and then crop the photo!
@anenemity Some of us on the forum use an Apexel clip on macro lens for smart phones. I love it. It has no moving parts (fixed lens) but can give some great pics of insects and the heart of flowers. The lenses are available second too (I got one that way).
