It turns out that the tuber sold to me by Sarah Raven as 'Cornel' earlier this year is actually 'Embassy' — happily I was refunded the princely sum of £3.95 by Sarah Raven when I sent pictures of the flowers
This is my first year of growing dahlias and I just know I’m going to become hooked.  This year I’ve planted dahlias and cosmos together but I find the cosmos are quite hard work with daily deadheading, so next year I’m going to just plant dahlias.  Dahlias are just so beautiful, especially the Cafe au Lait.
Hello @fire, I have grown three plants from tubers purchased from Crocus this year. Two are in pots, one in the ground. The ones in pots are 70cm and 80cm high, the one in the ground 70cm.Â
I used Levington peat free multi purpose compost without further additions in the pots but gave them a weekly feed of liquid organic general feed (Vitax) when planted outside in their permanent pots until the end of July, and am now using Tomorite once a week.Â
I have a book on dahlias by Andy Vernon, the entry on Waltzing Mathilda estimates the height as 60cm and spread as 40cm. They are lovely plants, but certainly not as robust as Bishop of Llandaff which I am also growing in a border. Here's the best of my three:
