Thank you for your post @Obelixx. It's interesting how this year's heat and drought have affected many plants. I like the colour change, it means you get a different look without doing anything! My Bishop of Llandaffs definitely perked up after a short spell of intense heat here and have been more floriferous since, but that could be down to the Tomorite!
@Plantminded, I didn’t know they changed colour so much!
It's interesting that the flowers also close up slightly at the end of the day @Athelas, unlike any other dahlias I have grown - they definitely have character!
It is also the position of the plant. I have 3 Honka Red, in full sun, partial shade and one in a pot, and they all look like different plants, although they came from one tuber.

This dwarf semi-cactus dahlia is worth considering. It's Red Pygmy, grows to 50cm and the flowers are about 4 inches wide, a very vibrant red, brings cheer on dull days!
I saw their stall at the Chelsea Flower Show last year — very nice and easily one of the most popular stalls for visitors taking photos in the pavilion, even though it was pretty small
Interesting to see Dahlia Beach are offering tuber mixes (like Sarah Raven).

It's been a hard dahlia year even for Monty Don in the damper west. He said on GW that his haven't been blooming much at all. So if it's been hard for you too, take heart. 🌱
