My first Bishop of Llandaff flower today. Taking a tip from one of the videos you posted @Fire, I've included lime leaved plants like Aralia cordata in the border to show off the dark foliage (slightly blurred in right hand corner!):
My Bishop of LLan. also has its first flower this morning. So good to see it back. My Matilda and Creme de Cognac are tiny and I'm very much hoping will bulk up. They will make good tubers for next year.
All my dahlias are in pots to date (because...slugs), but I will be putting tree dahlias in the ground later in the summer. I have been hammering the slugs hard this year and numbers have certainly fallen off. I have had no major dahlia damage yet. Repotting and moving and fleeceing etc is a faff, but worth it for a whole summer and autumn of explosive colour.
This year I have added some manure to the potting mix, with alfafa pellets and FBB. I always wish to do regular liquid tom feed through the season but I never get to it at the back.
I remembered to take a photo today, last year this was more of a pale yellow and white and I really didn’t like it much, this year it has come out more of a peachy orange and I like it better! No idea why but good surprise.
A better photo today of the large dahlia and a couple of surprises from a mixed packet of bedding begonias seed. I think I like the surprise element of the seeds, forget colour planning, but it’s fun.
