Another negative test this morning and I still feel absolutely dreadful. Bestie, however, is feeling fine. Can't put off Nanna Duty as Secondborn has no one else to look after the children. She's a teacher so can't have time off and her ex wont have the children when it's not his day.
Good afternoon everyone. Well what can I say? It has been raining (only light) all the time I was out. Didn't stop me planting all the plants I took down to Handy Brother's. The cooler weather is lovely.
Ante that did make me laugh. My Bestie is like that but she is worse I think. She hates me even touching her soil as she thinks I should wear gloves. She would have had hysterics if she had seen my hands today and if she knew I had picked up some worms to save them she would have had to lie down in a dark room with a wet cloth on her head. It must have been lovely for your sister and parents to have been able to eat and enjoy your veggies and the same for when you have your Aunt and Uncle over tomorrow.
Yvie, there is nothing worse than a summer cold. Best to keep the children at arms length and provide lots of entertaining things for them. Seems a bit unhelpful of her ex!
Hazel, I hope that you are not suffering too much in the warmth. I'll bet you are keeping a close eye on all your newly planted treasures to make sure the heat is not causing them to flag
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
This morning I raked up the leaves and bits of branch in the narrow front garden. It's gravel between the hedge and the path so hard to get it all up.
Then we went out to lunch. When we went to visit the 2 gardens on Sunday OH would have liked lunch out but the nearby restaurants were closed on Sunday. He looked one up and found all the Trip Advisor reviews gave it 5 stars so he booked us a table. It was very good, traditional French with a twist and a bit Japanese. The French chef had lived in Japan for a while. OH's starter was really nice, wished I'd chosen it. It was spicy sweet red pepper mousse in a fresh tomato herby sauce. Then we had sea bass with risotto and fresh wild asparagus - this is it with a pasta recipe: http://travel4taste.com/2014/06/09/homemade-thyme-pasta-with-wild-asparagus/; I had the best crème brulée I've ever had and he had a Japanese desert with a sort of sweet bean in a fruity sauce and ice cream which he said was delicious.
The car said it was 35° on the way home. Our bedroom is 30° at the moment. P, the previous owner here, said there was lots of insulation but I'm wondering. At least the sitting room is OK at 23°. This cottage has thick stone walls.
This afternoon we vegged out on the sofa and watched TV.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Evening all - we're back home now and catching up with internet stuff after being in a 4G not-spot for a couple of days.
It was unbearably hot yesterday just a mile or two from the coast and we slept with the camper van door wide open and just a large towel as a screen to preserve our modesty. High cloud made things more pleasant today in spite of the high temp (30C).
Not looking forward to this weekend when we're slap bang in the middle of an Amber Hot Weather warning. Don't think I've ever seen one before. Think I'll be staying indoors - good opportunity to catch up with accounts and tax returns.
Didn't go in to Sandringham House today as there was a 4 hour wait to get into the house which was what I really wanted to do. There will be a next time but I'll pre-book a slot.
Here is Felbrigg walled garden which was incredibly hot and airless yesterday. A masterclass in hot / dry garden planting:
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Good evening all. Busy again Busy? Tell you what but your meal sounds exquisite! When I read of your various meals my mouth always waters.
T'Bird, there is an amber warning here for extreme heat but so far I haven't noticed it. Apparently Sunday is going to be nuclear! Sorry there was such a long wait to get into Sandringham - booking seems to be the better way to go. I bet that wall around the garden at Felbrigg acts like a giant storage heater

It's been so very hot today, couldn't sit out in the garden till late afternoon. We did had some gentle rain around 7.30 for about 20 minutes. It did cool down for awhile but it's now very hot again. Do hope u can get to sleep tonight. Beautiful photo @Topbird I've always wanted a walled garden. Love the wooden door, looks like it leads to a secret place. Night night everyone, hope we all manage to get some sleep.
Good morning everyone - another hot day on the horizon? I am making a 'sco dash for the things I forgot last time. Got anniversary and birthday cards to post as well. Then I want to saw my old back gate up. Its about time too.

We did do something in the end today.
