Afternoon everyone, didn’t sleep until morning so late getting started. I’ve done my sm shop and been to visit Rubee and oh. Back to bake bread and have lunch. LB I’m pottering and watching the tennis. I hope your keeping cool as it’s very warm out. Top bird sorry to hear your poorly, glad oh is looking after you, hope you can have some simple food to eat, take care. Chive in can understand mum for not wanting a further op. Hope procedure went well and is healing. Good wishes to you both. Biglad lovely cat picture. I have many cat visitors to mine. Lily I hope you managed to find some cards. Hazel enjoy the sunshine as were set for rain later in the week. Ante I’m back in the cool and enjoying a cup of tea.
Good afternoon all. Hope that you have all had good (ish) days.
Biglad, I hope that you have cracked the work. It must be very frustrating when waiting for others to complete their input.
Busy, what devastation in your poor garden. Don't go overdoing it trying to clear all those leaves up. Have you worked out how the water got into and onto your table?
Good to see you Rosie. I was beginning to wonder where you were.
Jack's CD arrived today so I'm going to pop across the Lane to deliver it. I'm waiting until the rush of traffic eases.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Morning / afternoon all. Slept a bit better last night so hoping I'm over the hump of whatever lurgy this is. OH had dinner last night with another chap we've made friends with who's been dining on his own for a couple of days because his wife also wasn't feeling well. Her symptoms are identical to mine and she's done a Covid test which was negative. Maybe there's some special ship-generated lurgy doing the rounds.
Still have zero appetite and I may be the proud bearer of a trophy for being one of the few people to get off a 2 week cruise weighing less than when they got on! Am definitely going to try to go on the small zodiac cruising up to the face of the glaciers in Icy Bay later this afternoon.
Just listened to a very interesting lecture about the Exxon Valdez disaster in 1989. That was in this area and a severe storm a couple of days after the oil spill resulted in the oil escaping the containment booms and affecting a very large area of fragile habitat. The effects of the spill are being observed to this day. One of the environmentalists was heavily involved with the clean up operation and is still an active member of the monitoring team looking at long term impact etc
We are fortunate to have a team of expert scientists, environmentalists and historians on board. Many of them are actively involved with monitoring different ecosystems along the route - collecting samples, recording data and feeding info back to various organisations. They take it in turns to deliver informative lectures and can answer most questions thrown at them.
Last night the chief engineer did his first ever talk about the hybrid propulsion system and green credentials of the ship because so many people were asking about it and that was really intersting & well received. I suspect the poor chap will now be asked to do it every trip.
BL - sorry to see your garden in that mess - hope there's not too much permanent damage.
Hazel - hope your head is a bit better now.
Got some dolphins on the starboard side just now😎
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

Rosie Glad you caught up with some sleep this morning, hope tonight is better for you, SGL I hope you got the cards you wanted and filled up the green bin, hope you’ve had a chance to relax in the garden too today it’s been so warm, Hazel I hope your headache has eased away today, just a gentle few days needed, Saying Goodnight now, I hope you all sleep well.
Today has been glorious weather-wise - back in the 20C's. Lovely for us but not good for the glaciers...
Had a beautiful ninety minutes riding around Icy Bay getting up close to the icebergs and ice floes. Sea is a Grecian ultramarine blue and the 2nd highest mountain in N America (Mt St Elias) watches over the bay. The local guide reckons you can only see the peak on about 5 days of the year - the rest of the time it is shrouded in cloud. Today is most definitely one of the 5:
One of the 3 glaciers which travel into the bay:
I'll try to drop some more photos from the trip in a minute.

A Great Horned Owl - with only one horn left and part of his wing missing
Bald Eagle - part of one wing amputated
A rather shy Nthn Saw-whet Owl - one eye lost
Sorry they've come out sideways....🤨

Why is that last one sideways when the rest are ok?😠
