@didyw , totally agree about the delayed application to Uni. Oldest child applied in the usual way, got an offer for Oxford, and then had the trauma of worrying about grades ( She did get the required grades, and went to Oxford) Son wasn’t quite sure about what he wanted to do, and wasn’t as confident on what his grades might be. We encouraged him to wait, concentrate on doing as well as he could at A level and make his decision later. Worked very well. So much less stressful applying for uni when you already have grades to show them ( I suspect they make take lower grades than they ask for conditional offers, they can see what they are getting, and can be confident that they won’t need to use grades to compensate for making more offers than they have places for ) He got two firm offers, and went to Exeter after a fun gap year. Also got first pick of the student accommodation instead of the last minute rush after the A level results come out. I’d certainly recommend doing it that way round. Much easier looking at degree courses as well, and visiting universities, when you’re not trying to concentrate on studying at the same time.
Evening all, Feeling very tired today. Had a lovely time at Firstborns with all the grandchildren. Shame it wasn't a bit warmer but we all enjoyed ourselves at the BBQ. Stayed overnight but didn't sleep well and was up very early for Mabel to open her presents before school. Despite being tired I have managed to get quite a bit done in the garden. The lawns have been mowed and nearly all my treasures grown from seed have been planted. Got quite a bit of weeding done too. Trying not to nap in the hope that I sleep well tonight. Hope everyone has a good day.
Glad you enjoyed the barbecue/birthday party for Mabel @Yviestevie. It was quite cold and breezy here yesterday so I didn't do much and awoke this morning with a migraine which was very annoying. Managed the usual walk to get the morning paper, read it over coffee then went back to bed for half an hour. Still had to take two migraine pills at lunchtime though.
Managed to deadhead and photo the roses (pics on Rose thread) but found it too hot and bright so retreated indoors again. Feel a bit better now.
Really think that youngsters should get their A level results before they apply to Uni - makes much more sense. Astounded to find out that my grandson is already thinking of his GSCE choices, he's growing up so fast. His younger sister goes off to the grammar school in September too.
Interesting photo of Chatsworth Punkdoc. One of Dad’s ancestors was head coachman there in the early days, before he came to Australia. He apparently then worked for the Bishop in Sydney in the same capacity. Dad spoke about having to go wandering around the beaches and headlands around Ulladulla when he was a kid to collect cuttlefish backbones which were used as fine sandpaper on the coaches in Sydney. They sent sugar bags full to Sydney. 🙄 Funny memories!
We’ve had a whole 1ml of rain overnight. Yippee! Still darned cold outside.
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ interesting about your connection with Chatsworth @Pat E 😊 we visited when @WonkyWomble was about 9 years old … I wonder if she remembers 😊 A bright sunny morning here in Norfolk and 12C … the forecast is for a mainly sunny day and temps in the low 20s.
I’ve got some laundry to do as I didn’t do it yesterday cos of my trip to the dentist …. Then I’m making squid, chorizo and chickpea stew and some crusty bread rolls for supper … apart from that and the watering I’ll be in the studio … oh, and I might watch some tennis …and do some knitting … it’s all go here 😂

Hurrah! I’ve been logged out for ages and couldn’t get back in. Grrr.
Anyway, here I am at last. I’ve been sewing up some of the knitted squares that I’ve been making. One set especially is for my daughter and as Hubby is being driven to Canberra for a specialist appt tomorrow by one of our friends, he can drop,it off. 👏👏👏
Dove, yes I’ve been interested in Chatsworth for ages, but since I’ve never had a passport and never will, I’ll never get to see it in real life.
My 82nd birthday tomorrow. It makes me feel old to think about it, but I feel very well. 😁😁

Handyman rang at midnight. Been a huge hailstorm, road was closed and he fears for my house.
We must go home, OH will drive, I'm not up to it.
Hope you feel better soon @Busy-Lizzie, safe journey home.
