I would give every member of that sponging family the same as every other unemployed person. Let's see how they manage on £74 a week.

I have been fortunate enough to receive an honour from the Queen and I did find it a truly memorable occasion.

Harry Billinge I’ll accept was incredible as were the 160,000 others who landed on the Normandy beaches alongside him.

Hmm..I guess fighting the Japanese in the Burmese jungle would be a cake walk after that..

Personally, I'm deeply uncomfortable with having an unelected head of state and I find it difficult to understand why having the same unelected head of state for the last 70 years is something to celebrate. I'd be much more sympathetic to the whole idea if the message from the queen was: "Thank you to the citizens of the country for being such wonderful subjects over the last 70 years, the platinum jubilee is a celebration of all of you and the wonderful communities we have here."

That said, I'm genuinely delighted for everyone for whom the the jubilee is meaningful, and anyone who's just looking forward to celebrating over the weekend. Everyone deserves lots of happy occasions, especially after the last few years.

Hopefully some people were slightly more grateful for my services than you, @Balgay.Hill

I am grateful for anything you have done for the public good. Seriously.
Why would you think i wasn't grateful?

"Ye see yon birkie ca’d a lord,
Wha struts, an’ stares, an’ a’ that,
Tho’ hundreds worship at his word,
    He’s but a coof for a’ that.
For a’ that, an’ a’ that,
His ribband, star, an’ a’ that,
    The man o’ independent mind,
He looks an’ laughs at a’ that."
