I hope everyone hasn't lost their sense of fun. I think it's good to have a village get together and it will be lovely to celebrate the Queen's long reign.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Lots of people are in really severe financial difficulty. It's not about not having fun, it's about needing to find ways to have it without spending any money. Hopefully the street parties will be cheap tickets so people can join in with their communities.

Yes, because anyone who's done the same job for 70 years - which they didn't volunteer for, deserves my appreciation. I was actually named after her, although my father was a staunch Labourite, which always surprised me. She's been my Queen all my life and it will be very strange without her. That said, we're not planning to do anything special for the Jubilee, apart from getting a bottle of Pimms in for a toast. I might watch some of the TV coverage, depending on the weather. There is a local organised party on the Rec but it's not our thing.
I’m a little bit sad that so many on this forum seem not to have the neighbourhood integration that is such a feature of my life. In our village we love getting together to celebrate birthdays, festivals, whatever. There is no expectation to get involved, and many don’t, but I love chatting to everyone from our ‘celebrity’ gardener to care workers, consultants to bakers. The platinum jubilee is another occasion to catch up or meet newcomers.
Nobody cares whether we’re pro, anti or ambivalent when it comes to the royal family, we just like making the informal bonds with folk who’ll be on hand should the need ever arise.

It is sad.
To continue to show disregard with varying posts thereafter, is not very nice for others to read, to be honest.
Some people just love to pour bile. They seem to think that as this is "social media" courtsey and regard for others here doesn't count. The loudest and rudest "wins" the airspace. They call it "cut and thrust" and "good natured fun". Anyone who flinches is labelled "over-sensitive".
