    Yes
Well I think she’s great - and I am very happy to celebrate this amazing milestone.

This thread serves to remind me how different we all are 🙄.  Quite sad really ☹️

Our commonality comes from our love of gardening, but even in gardening we have our differences .
It's hardly a surprise that we differ on Monarchy as I'm sure we do on, music, fashion, sport, TV programmes etc etc.
Our differing opinions don't make us better , or worse than others, just different.
The thread was set up as a Poll, which, like any shows differences.
I see no need to take any of it personally.

I voted yes. I'm not interested in street party or any other kind of party,(you know I have "unpleasant"(being polite) ndn. I have bought some nice bunting,we planted our front pots,red/white/blue, guess what....the pelargoniums now in flower, are pale pink!!! Hubby said last night, they'll have to come out! They won't be wasted I still have empty pots,(they'll also be overwintered, hopefully.  My late Father met the Queen,he definitely wasn't a royalist, but was pretty impressed. I certainly wouldn't want to have her job. The length of service is pretty amazing, I doubt it will be beaten. I know she doesn't have to "run a house", but she'd frail, unwell and getting "on", how many people put in her hours at 96

    For clarification …

my answer refers to the question which I took to be about the Jubilee jollifications  … I am indifferent to them.

I have a great deal of respect for the Queen and the way she’s carried out the role she was given. I also think that Prince Charles will do the job well when the time comes. I welcome his vision of a scaled down monarchy with fewer of the family involved, concentrating on its constitutional role.

I’m not convinced that a constitutional monarchy is the best way of running a country … but on recent evidence I’m dammed sure that I’m not keen on the Presidential system either … so for the time being, I’m content with what we’ve got.

Or maybe it shows how different our experiences are.... which is possibly more sad 😒

I’ll celebrate the jubilee with the village picnic on the green, lots of fun with the neighbours and friends etc, but simply as a nice community event, the royal aspect means nothing to me.

I agree with @Dovefromabove on this one: respect for the Queen's life of service, but not a royalist. Unlikely to watch most of the TV coverage.
There are no celebrations involved. It's a really rural area, no village, just scattered farms and a tiny hamlet about 3/4 miles away by road. The annual knees up, the Rose Queen festival was held last weekend, following local tradition. Daughter went to that, took some friends from Manchester, who didn't know such things existed :)

After reading the comment about the Queen not being able to have 'duvet day' I can't get the image of her pottering about in a onesie with a crown on her head, out of my mind.
I think she has been incredible to serve this country for 70 years.  Her world was thrown into turmoil twice.  First when her father unexpectedly became King and again when he died when she was so young.  She won't be with us much longer, although her mother lived to 101 so there could be a few more year yet.  This Jubilee is an opportunity for people so show how much she is appreciated by the vast majority of the population.
I think major changes are inevitable when Charles takes over, but they have been slimming down the 'firm' for many years.  Not something which is appreciated by many of the royal freeloaders such as Andrew and his brood.

I'm vaguely fond of the Queen (after all I had to pledge my loyalty to her in order to become a citizen) but I don't have strong feelings about the royal family either way. I think arguing about it is in itself a British tradition. As a heritage professional I am mostly convinced by the argument that they bring in more money than they cost. But I personally don't care about the gossip and drama.

I'm not sure what events are going on around where I live but I'll probably find one or two to drop by. I enjoyed 2012 when I was walking around town and found a few random events but I was in a far more optimistic mood back then.

I heard someone who studies these things on the radio talking about the figures for people who would like to abolish the monarchy and they said despite the odd fluctuation, they have been remarkably consistent over the queens reign. I can’t remember the exact figures but I think it was generally about 40% of people would rather we had no monarchy when asked, and (surprisingly to me), it was pretty much the same 70 years ago. The ‘no’ camp tend to be the younger demographic, and then some shift to ‘yes’ as they get older
