A Scarce Silver-y from last night's trap. I'm not sure how scarce these are technically but all the local records seem to be at least two decades old and this is the only one recorded in Wales on iNaturalist. This is a three-photo HDR image to try and capture all the detail.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
I've started moving the trap closer to the corner of my house. Sometimes a moth will sit on the wall close to the corner and I can get these lovely, low-angle shots which look like you're taking a photo out of a hole in the ground. Obviously I've rotated the photo so the wall becomes the ground but you know what I mean.
Antler moth, straight out of the salon this morning.

I thought about bringing my moth trap to christen it at Knepp but a PITA without a car and with little signal to gave first clue what I’m looking at. Plenty of butterflies for me to look up instead.
This thread had been an education for me. Before this thread was started I had no idea that there were such beautiful moths (some excelling butterflies) and how many existed. I have always thought of moths as the little brown things that my Grandmother used to keep at bay with moth balls and her clothes always smelled of them. Thanks @Jellyfire and @wild edges and anyone else involved and keep up the good work with all your wonderful photos. I have never seen one never mind taking a photo of one.
