I think it's a very good shot and not the usual pose we often see in moth photography, it's almost butterfly like in the way its holding its wings.

    Works for me @wild edges

OH found this visitor on the window frame in the studio the other evening … anyone know his name?

We’re not very good at ID ing them … and they’re so variable …

    I'm inclined towards cabbage moth.

I wish the rain would stop so I could take advantage of these late mild nights. I've been catching up on recording moths from earlier this year and I've now logged 250 moth species in the garden with a few tricky ones still to work out. 570 species of animal/insect/creature now photographed and verified :)
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Thank you @fidgetbones 😊. No wonder he’s indoors … we’ve not grown any brassicas this year for one reason and another … he must feel quite bereft …

I know the feeling. I put the trap out last night at 7 as it was quite warmish. I bought it in at 11.30 as it was due to rain and it looks like it tipped it down overnight. Without a gazebo over it, I don't trust the electrickery and lamp in wind and rain.  I caught one tortrix, one willow beauty and a crane fly.

There was a nice segment on moth trapping and macro moth images on Autumnwatch tonight.

One of the autumn/November group of moths. The only one from last night but I wasn't expecting a lot given how windy it was. This is another one where you need to examine the genitals to verify ID and my quest for data hasn't sunk that low just yet.

I drew the line at that. If I can't identify by photograph, forget it.
