Slow night last night. Six moths of four species. A couple more of these Bridled Beauties though which are lovely moths.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Ten Brinded Beauty last night. Including one that I fished out of a bucket of water and assumed was dead but revived as soon as it dried out.

Another slow night with only six moths of six species. A couple of nice ones though and another new species for the garden which is this Glaucous Shears (Papestra biren). 253 species for the garden now and ticking up very slowly. Hopefully we'll get some double figure night time tempertures soon and things will pick up again.
and a very hairy Pebble Prominent doing some yoga

Excellent...will be ordering my trap in the next few weeks, really looking forward to seeing what species are close by.

Its been a very slow start to the year. I hope it doesn't mean that last years hot temperatures wiped out the larvae, so less moths this year. Less moths this year, very few larvae and the birds will be struggling to find caterpillars for their babies.

Some of the Moth-ers on Twitter are reporting good numbers @fidgetbones so with any luck all should be well, though that could be location dependent.

I think it's just colder than usual at night. I had some good moths on Tuesday night after that longhorn. Not many but plenty of variety and generally big furry ones that don't mind the cold so much. My 3yr old was really taken with the Buff Tip and keeps asking me to go and find the stick moth for him to hold. We had a really friendly Poplar Hawkmoth too that spent ages walking all over his hands and I think he was hoping we'd keep that one.
