Dark forms of peppered moth were being recorded in Sherwood Forest last week, 3 out of 4.

When you set these traps do you provide some feed such as sugar solution for them?  If they're hungry they're bound to be keen to get out asap.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Whether they are actively trying to get out or not seems to be more temperature dependant. I pot them individually  to identify, and most have to be coaxed with a feather from the egg boxes into the pots.

What moth do you think this is? I can't claim to have caught it!

So now I know about your hobbies @fidgetbones but what type of moth is it? 😄

Apamea monoglypha   aka   Dark Arches Moth.

Dark arches approach the trap like a projectile from a medieval siege weapon. I've had a few bounce off my head at full wack and it feels personal.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Large yellow underwings do that here. Also known as blunderwings.

Great thread, we have a young visitor from America at the moment, he is studying nature and ecology,  I will show him this I'm sure he will find it fascinating.
