Moth trappings

Rather than swamp the insect of the day post with moths all summer I thought I’d start a thread for moths, not sure if anyone has other than @wild edges and I have one, but feel free to post your magnificent moths here

    I trap from time to time but I haven't got my own trap. I do have hundreds of photos though :)

    I didn't know emperors came to light traps :o  Fingers crossed for one of those then. I just checked and the females fly by night but the males fly by day and you need a hormone lure for them. You could hold onto that female for the day though and she might attract the males to your garden if you keep her somewhere that allows the scent to disperse.
    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    I didn’t know that, she’s currently on a tree trunk so I will have to keep an eye out for males!

    With @Wild Edges help, I looked after a wriggling chrysalis that I found in the garden. (I didn't know chrysalis could move). I kept it a basket during my father's last days.  The day after he died, the most gorgeous gypsy moth emerged. Within minutes moths appeared on the bedroom window and began flying into the room, I guess, to mate (the last picture, I think). It was a magical experience.

     I feel sad not to know more about moths.
