At the moment the men are just reporting it. I guess we have some negotiating to do, and will need a lot of plastic sheeting for the veg patch to try and protect the fruit and veg . Raspberries are under the oak along with one early worcester apple tree. Rest of veg patch likely to catch any drift.
If they are nests and not marching all over the place at the moment why on earth can't they just remove them. How hard can it be with modern equipment / protective gear. Feel for you and hope you can negotiate.
@Allotment Boy a tree grasshopper or cricket of some kind I think. Was going to say lacewing but the legs look too long.

It sounds like vacuum removal of the nest is an option at this time of year. I'm not sure how effective spraying would be if they're tucked up in their pupae already but I'm not an expert.
From what I gather the nest is empty , just full of those nasty hairs and skins. They will have already hatched and flown. I'm happy for them to vacuum up the nests and put out pheromone traps to catch adults.
I'm not happy about killing every insect in the vicinity when we have two sorts of bats roosting in there.
Mature oak trees are home to a vast ecosystem of insects. Using the nuclear option will hopefully be the last resort.
Another disappointingly cool night last night but since the weather is looking like it will stay the same until August now I have to trap when it's dry. Only about 10 species again and all are looking battered after that bad weather. The exception was this Peppered Moth. Another dark form and different markings to the previous one.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
