I was watching Kew on telly earlier on in the week, There was a florist helping the Orchid display in the Princess Diana Conservatory. He made Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen look positively dowdy.
It was a bit of a better night's trapping last night. A good variety of interesting moths and a couple of new ones too. Such as: The Frosted Orange. Which is another one that doesn't seem to have been recorded in my borough.
The Sallow.
and the Dusky Thorn
This one is the same species as the bird poo moth in my last post but a different colour morph. I like how this one is blackberry flavour and comes complete with the seeds sticking out. Fascinatingly gross.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Heh. I couldn't work out what this moth was so put it up on iNaturalist to see if any experts there could help. Someone duly IDed it as The Anomalous which is apparently quite an uncommon moth and only had two records on there from Wales. I checked where the previous records were from and one was Anglesey and the other was from... my house this time last year. Memory like a sieve sometimes...

Hi trappers...from what I have seen online, this weekend has been very good for rarities, especially Clifden nonpareil or the Blue Underwing with quite a few turning up all over the country, my local nature reserve recorded one on Saturday.
I saw a few records on iNaturalist and Reddit too. The closest to here has been Bristol (sadly not Clifton). I've only seen a couple of records of Death's Head Hawkmoths this year which surprised me.
I found three Copper Underwing moths in a nest box this weekend though.

I had lunch with one of those a few weeks ago.
