Good price. I would have bought that one instead of my net one at that price. They were abou 100 quid dearer. Actinic bulb. I don't seem to get as many with the actinic bulb as my friend caught with a mercury vapour bulb. Mercury vapour bulbs are like gold dust, they hang on to them.
It's got a rain guard which the NHBS one doesn't have and the lids are clear perspex so you can see what's going on inside. Otherwise they're pretty similar. I think the electrics on both are water-resistant though.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
I use an upturned plastic garden coffee table with a sheet of perspex balanced on the legs if rain is forecast. My moth ladys set up has a circular disc of perspex covering the mv bulb. This is her set up. You need the electric supply with a circuit breaker as well. We had sunglasses on , sat in the dark at midnight for this. I'm sure the neighbours thought we had a witches coven going on.
I wish I'd run the trap last night. It seemed too cold and clear to bother but by morning there was a good low mist and things had warmed up a lot. We haven't had any decent trapping weather for ages here.

I put it out on the basis that Thursday night seemed to be the only decent night this week. The regulars round here keep catching blue and red underwings and various sallows so I gave it a go. The brown plume and barred sallow are new to me. The plume I found in the kitchen, the sallow on the white sheet, not actually in the trap. Large yellow underwings that the cat likes to play whack a mole with are dropping off. Either its getting past season or he's eating them all. I put the trailcam out last night and got , the cat, a fox, and a lot of blurred footage because it fogged up.
Someone on Derbyshire moths facebook page is up in the peaks and its getting down to 2C at night up there, and he is still getting more than me. They must he hardy sorts up there. Apparently moth trapping went from being very niche to quite common during the last couple of years. Easy to do at home when you can't go out anywhere. I did say to my moth lady after we spent a chilly evening out at the local nature reserve, we must be getting old. 50 years ago we would have spent a Friday night at the local disco, not sat around on a woodland edge in the dark recording bats and moths, with an MV light run from a portable generator and sunglasses on.

Amen. I wonder about this most days myself, consumed with thoughts of roses mould and compost temperature. Clubbing till 5am it is not.

I really like the idea of a rain guard and the clear perspex lids, so will have a proper look in the morning.
