Yes, thanks, @debs64. We went to a Country Show, loads of people there, things going on, stalls selling things, food etc. OH bought me a pair of silver earrings and I bought lunch, scampi, chips and cider, baclava and Turkish Delight. I also bought a mug with red squirrels on it. I enjoyed the pony events and OH enjoyed the dancing diggers.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Evening all, A lovely sunny day here but a cold wind. I have managed to get quite a bit done in the garden. Pruned the Garrya and deadheaded lots of daffs. I've had to water as everywhere was really dry, it's been ages since we had any heavy rain. None of my dahlias have emerged yet I do hope they are OK. Everything else is doing well. Had a hectic day yesterday looking after the boys while Secondborn did the Spring Wolf Run. She must be mad. Just a summer one to do and she will have completed all 3 and get her Tshirt. I'd want more than that for 3 10k events where I swam in freezing water, crawled through swamps/bogs and climbed over obstacles best suited for an army assault course. Nothing planned for tomorrow so perhaps I'll manage more gardening.
Good evening all. I've had a busy busy day. Planted two trees - my Heptacodium miconioides and a Cercis siliquastrum and planted out 9 of my young perennials in the bog garden. My water hawthorn in the pond is in flower but the pond is badly in need of dredging. My day was not quite as picturesque as Busy's though. Thank you so much for those lovely pictures. Those little appaloosa ponies drawing the carriage are so sweet.
Biglad those hooks look ideal. Word of caution from personal experience, do not let the hanging baskets get too heavy. I think you will be fine with the strawberry trough.
Hazel, you saw pictures of my honey bells last year and they are all coming up like guided missiles in the garden. Yes, Busy, they are Nectaroscordum, in the allium family. I like them and their boring, straggly leaves after the flowers fade are hidden by the leaves of my Cardoons.
Yvie, respect to your daughter! She deserves far more than a T-Shirt but well done to her and good luck with the summer event. I'm hoping for more gardening tomorrow too. Ooh one other thing I did today (thanks SGL for the idea) - I'll give you a hint:
She never fails to watch her TV! Actually, I think the little minx is just admiring her reflection!
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Thanks for the heads up @Ladybird4. I'd been wondering about the troughs potentially blowing off or damaging the fence. I think I can stretch to getting another hook for each one to spread the weight a bit more As you say though, the weight of the strawbs should be ok. I've filled the other two today.
As per Monty's instructions, I got my dahlia tubers out of the shed today - all potted up now. I sowed a tray of dahlia seeds as well.
Potted on a few plants getting too big for their boots and put together a 'cage' for one of my beds. It's not quite fully birdproof but I think cats will have to go to too much trouble to get in to use it as a toilet. I've got loganberries, raspberries and rhubarb in there at the moment but I'll be putting some french beans and peas in there shortly.
Evening everyone, the weather was lovely this morning, but by the afternoon, it got quite cloudy and very windy again. Got the unmentionable done, grass cut and also did some weeding. @Ladybird4 was it bedding 😉 @Busy-Lizzie You had a lovely afternoon, lovely photos thank you for sharing.
LB a lovely picture of Lily and she may well be admiring her reflection whilst watching the washer. It sounds like you’ve had a productive day. Lily I’m glad you had some sleep. I hope it continues. I hope oh and you feeling much better. Dove it’s good mil is on the mend and you’re both still okay. Chive two kitchen tiles have lifted and cracked into small pieces from previous use of steamer, never again. I thought I’d repaired them but further cracked into small pieces. I’ve picked all the small cracked ones up and bagged them and that has reduced further cracking. You live and learn. Now I use a speed mop and wipes and dries quickly and still sanitizes. Yvie your second born has done very well and hope it wasn’t too cold. Busy sounds like a great day out thank you for the lovely pictures. Alfie has some new treats and he’s been absolutely loving them, he’s spent a lot of time asleep on my knee. That reminds me I need some more stock of food for him, it’s his favourite. Big lad good advice from LB regarding the weight of the planter but it will look nice. I hope everyone has a good nights sleep.
Good morning everyone, I’m washed and dressed and the heater is on for a short burst as quite cold as temperatures seem to have dropped considerably. I have an sm shop to do for essentials, forecast is rain. Alfie’s had a good night, no problems, and I’ve managed to get some sleep. Time for tea. Wishing you all a good day, you may need a brolly.
