Debs, I remember my Grandma saying to me when I was at an early age, "Growing old is s**t!" I had never heard any grown up in my family swear before and I was really shocked. I daren't even tell Mum and Dad what had been said. How things have changed, and Grandma, if you are looking in, you are SO right!
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
@Chivetalking I hope the doctors can do something for your Mum very quickly, sounds painful.
I've been up for ages, don't know where the morning has gone. I'll plant the clematis I bought on Saturday and edge the front garden path, it's mixed bricks set in the lawn. Grass grows over the edges.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Afternoon all, So sorry to hear about your poor mum @Chivetalking. Hope they can sort it out for her. I've been to art class this morning we are doing Sunset/sunrise workshops over the next few weeks. Came back and did a bit of gardening. Managed to dig up quite a bit of water avens. It always annoys me as I'm never sure whether its a lovely geum or the weedy one. Hopefully I've not removed a treasure. Enjoy your day folks.
Afternoon everyone, thank you all so much for your very kind thoughts, it’s been a worrying time to say the least. The X-ray has revealed that two cables have detached, which explains the protrusion of the bar at the top of her thigh. It’s not broken through the skin but it is prominent enough to show its jutting out (sorry there’s no other way to put that) mums had both hips replaced so they were unable to fix the bar to the joint, though it is fixed at the knee. The good news is that her bone has fused back together well and the surgeon is happy with how that is healing. The next step will be to have an ultrasound done and the choices are to continue with the bar as it is, or to have it removed. I don’t know which option is more preferable, we’ll have to have that conversation after the scan. Meanwhile mum is back home and must limit the amount of walking, sister is staying with her for a few days and I’ll be helping out so we’ll see how things go.
LB I had to smile at your grandmothers words about ageing, I think mum would whole heartedly agree with that too 😀 Hope you’ve all had a good day, sorry to drop that bombshell this morning but I was feeling anxious about the outcome of this latest event. I really appreciate all the support, thank you very much.
Chive, I'm so sorry to read about your Mum. Hope all will ended well, and that she doesn't feel pain.
It's another sunny day. I came home very late yesterday and was exhausted. After all that work, I need at least two day to rest. I'm going to make a pot of tea and must read back.
Evening all. I am, like Ante, exhausted after a productive day in the garden. Lots of my perennials are now in their permanent positions but still more to go tomorrow.
Chive, do not ever worry about sharing things that are of concern to you and yours. I do hope that they come up with a satisfactory solution for your Mum. She will be very frustrated at having to curtail her walking now and will enjoy having a morale boost from you and your sister.
Yvie, your art class sounds most interesting and I think the topic of sunrise/sunset gives you great scope to experiment with red skies in the morning and golden sunsets over the sea. Sorry, I got a bit transformed there!
Hazel, I couldn't believe what I was reading when you wrote you had had a hail storm! I hope none of your precious plants took a battering. Enjoy your evening.
I am signing out for now. Going to read as there is nothing I want to watch on TV tonight. See you all tomorrow.

Chive so sorry to hear this and hope mum can take things more gently. I hope you all rest tonight and comforted by your sister staying over. As LB says I too hope there will be a satisfactory solution with as little disruption as possible with regard to the ties. Goodnight everyone and rest well. LB you sound to have had another busy day in the garden. Remember to stretch before bed.
@Chivetalking no need to apologise and we're all here for you. It's good news that your mum's bones have fused back together, hoping that's a good sign if they are able to take the bar out. Hooe they can come to a decision soon and make your mum much more comfortable. Keeping everything crossed and sending very best wishes to you and your mum. Will be thinking of you. Try and get some sleep tonight, take care.x
