The garden tea went well yesterday, with about 20 gardening neighbours coming to eat cake in the sun. Because there was only one of me, I didn't get to chat much with them or talk about the plants, but they know each other, so could leave them to it. My sponges rose (yeay!), it wasn't raining and my house is cleaner than it been for months.
Several people noted (through mouthfuls of viccie sponge) that they have got very into roses in the past few years - through the garden group. And I have got very into roses in the past few years - through this thread of rosers. So thanks to all for your help in rosing up our bit of N8. I like that enthusiasm and support and off hand comments here might well radiate across the land, you know not where, and roses pop up in gardens like molehills.
Wonderful roses everyone! Fell a bit behind with the thread so I’ve spent a lovely hour with a cuppa catching up.
First flower on Strawberry Hill. Decided to flower on the floor for some reason
Roald Dahl looking promising
My first Malvern Hills bloom. I’m showing this @Mr. Vine Eye pics so it knows what it should look like  It hasn’t yet realised it is a climber…
Has anyone noticed Ghlslaine d'F as slow to get going after planting? I noticed Malvern Hills just sat in thought for at least a year before looking up.
Here is Arthur Bell (background) in a neighbour's garden right across from me. She woke up one day and realised she suddenly had 12 roses in her garden. She can't remember how they got there. Â

@Fire, I planted a bare root G de F in a raised veg bed 'temporarily' in winter 20/21. Rich deep soil. The permanent home didn't quite materialise and it stayed there all last year. I was so pleased with how well it grew and flowered! Intended transplanting it this last winter but the storm...... Anyway I knew it should be moved or it would be a very difficult job if left for two years so out it came at the end of March. It hasn't forgiven me for taking it out of its rich, moist but well drained bed of perfection and putting it into The Ground. I suppose it's behaving as if just planted after receipt. But I have my memories.... June 2021
Whilst there's some fantastic photos on there. I have found them useful when looking for plants; they often show a wider view of the rose planted and give a better idea of the whole plant rather than just the close up of the flower as per the growers sites, plus some ideas for colour combinationsÂ
