It's 'Parkdirector Riggers' @Fire. I did add another post later when I realised I'd not said what it was. No scent but it's not in an easy place to sniff! I'm thinking of adding a couple of small scented roses nearby, but it needs a thorough ground clearance first. When the dark nights come I'll go back through this thread and make a long shortlist!
@Marlorena the arch is not that big, H 220 cm L 160 cm and 40 cm large. Let’s hope it will be enough, otherwise I will add another arch nearby.
@Woodgreen Please let me know how Parkdirector Rigger is going, I was interested in buying it because I am searching a climbing red rose easy to grow and a little shade tolerant. Although @Nollie says red roses don’t do well in the heat, I am willing to try at least one, at the momento I don’t have any red rose here
First bloom from Wildfire. Covered in buds and a beautiful colour. It is a small shrub rose but fairly lights up that corner of my garden! It was bare root in December and is currently in a large pot.
@dabolem My ' P. Riggers ' is quite old now, and I am trying to restore it to good health again after some neglect. In its prime it grew to the top of the obelisk and repeat flowered, with large round hips forming if not dead-headed. I found it quite healthy, but the growth habit is rather stiff and angular. The flowers are open centred and stand up to the weather well here in NW England. I just love the colour, it's what I call a true red. It's just a pity it has no scent to speak of.
Perhaps the person who posted mentioning their 'P.Riggers' might see this and offer their opinion of it too?
A couple of my HT's...'Timeless Charisma', which is turning out to be a spectacular rose, it has huge stunning deep pink blooms, which remain upright as well as being rain resistant, and is healthy (so far). The second one is 'Troika', which is still in it's 'trial' pot, but is turning out to be a delightful rose with big and blowsy blooms, which crisped up ever so slightly in our very mini heatwave, but remained perfectly acceptable. I'm becoming quite a fan of HT's, I've just bought two more and I can imagine my little garden in a couple of years time resembling a throwback to the 1970's when HT's ruled. Â
