@BlueBirder Sorry, I haven't any experience of growing the smaller rambler types, but I expect someone will know. I like the look of Open Arms myself. Nothing beats having grown something and learned the pros and cons, so I hope someone can advise you on this.
@BlueBirder I have open arms, its pretty but not very compact. Its covered my trellis in a shady spot in a season.Â
@Victoria Sponge yep thats my front garden, its just a big rectangle so I dug the hedge front bed in lockdown and planted in Autumn, topped up last year with even more bulbs! Planning to change some of the shrubs this year.
Ive got lots of muscari in small pots which I dug up from the new patio area last year. Also I’m going to plant my large pots of bulbs in the ground after they’ve finished this year.
@Woodgreen - you’re right! We have a roving sheep who comes into the garden. I’m guessing it managed to get up the steps and knocked  the pot over.Â
@BlueBirder don’t have experience with gdf and from the pics I’ve seen here, it’s a big rose. However to give you some idea here is a pic of a rose mme Isaac Perrier growing in a 45 cm pot (soil based compost with manure) potted up 5 years ago (this pic is y3). Still flowers well.  Gets 2-3 inches of soil removed and replaced with the same mix 1-2 years.Â

Those tell-tale bits of wool are how I work out where they've squeezed through gaps here. A rare occurrence thankfully, usually in a very dry spell. I hope you can keep it out.
@Katsa@Woodgreen I grew up on a farm and the sheep absolutely decimated the roses. The thorns didn't seem to bother them at all! I'd keep an eye on your roses just in case...
@Alchemist what a gorgeous rose! It's stunning - encouraging to see such a beautiful plant growing in a container. Do you feed your roses? If so, what with?
@JessicaS is your Open Arms in the ground or a pot? It sounds fairly vigorous.
A sheep in the garden, that's different I suspect I might like the idea of it more than the reality Hope your rose recovers @Katsa.
A layer of snow overnight but it's expected to pick up later. Â
I really like your front garden @JessicaS, thanks for showing more pics. I thought I remembered you saying you were going to test Munstead Wood in your front garden, look forward to seeing how it progresses with the shrub removal. I'm really impressed that your hyacinths are all standing upright even under the snow, I'm tempted to try some in the ground again seeing them.

..that's fabulous for a pot grown rose of this type.. Just curious but could you not have planted it in the ground in that area? Â
