Sadly both my arches have pretty much gone over their peak and you have to stand on the loo upstairs to get the best view, as the rose blooms have grown upwards towards the sun. But hey ho. (I'm exaggerating). I have three sparrow nests on the go at the mo, so hopefully they will be zipping around enjoy the cakes with us. All my oxeyes have been flattened in the middle, so I suspect ceryain someones have been happily curled up there in the sun.
It would be a cool thing to have a collage gizmo where you could click and open indivvidual pic elements.
'The Albrighton Rambler' Yesterday evening The drive bed In the lower end - gallica 'Belle de Crécy', 3rd year, looking really nice and bushy, and 'Jaqueline Humery' (Lens) in the middle. In the upper end, 'Saphir' (Tantau) 'Reine des Violettes' 'Plaisanteri' (Lens), hard to photograph because of its position. It's no Mutabilis but it's cheerful (and vigorous and able to grow in shade). In this bed, aquilegia fell into 'Lavender Dream' and I am leaving it as it is. 'Lavender Dream' just starting and doing well, nice basal there. I am also more tolerant of self-seeders (welsh poppies here, linaria in the drive bed). It basically looks like a jungle already...
Thanks. It's been raining here a lot, good for the lush green growth, not that much for flowers though.
I forgot to post 'Silas Marner'
@JessicaS A really good selection of lovely roses, I am sure they are even better in person. @owd potter The whole garden looks really good, I remember the plans and the planting, it's getting somewhere, isn't it? You must be really happy with it.
I managed to get some time in the garden yesterday. The front is definitely an “English jungle” more than a garden! None of the peonies or roses have started to bloom and I know that they will start just as I go away!
Here’s a selection of almost open buds:
Boscobel
A random potato I dug up when weeding around my desdemona rose
Two very unhealthy roald Dahl roses and a healthy one
Natalja by Pheno Geno
Roald Dahl which is half the size of the one behind
Desdemona with a couple of sneaky potato plants!
Im really disappointed with my two roald dahls. Is it worth emailing DA to see if I can get a refund or replacement? I bought them in 2020 and two have excelled while two have just languished. I’m guessing that if I did get replacements I’d need to leave the ground fallow for a bit to prevent Rose Replant disease and also plant in a cardboard box?
A posy of Susan Williams-Ellis (R) and Palais Royal (L). Palais Royal ready to open: Darcey Bussel in all her glory. L'aimant above in its first year, so not yet a floribunda.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
Random potato.😁 What rose garden would be complete without one? Oddly, Desdemona is from Othello, probably set in 1570, which is the very year the potato was introduced to Europe.
