A while back I was at an independent garden centre and asked them why they no longer stocked hoselock, (I was looking for spare connectors). They confirmed what many of us are finding, hoselock are not the good quality they once were. As things fail I am gradually switching to Gardena.Â
Yesterday, I fed all of the remaining roses in my garden (except Vanessa Bell - I realised after putting everything away)
Haven't mulched them all though as I've run out of stuff to mulch with and need the last dregs of my MPC for some pot sowing.
Will need to source some more compost. I just can't find soil improver type stuff anywhere. They're in relatively small bags for ridiculous money. Whereas last time I bought some it was 4 for £10, it would cost me triple that now.
Here also Gardena… I need advice one of my guirlande is again starting to yellow… Last year it was one main that had it and the rest was fine but now I’m noticing it again on a newer main . Does it need a iron feed? They are just fed two weeks ago with general rose fertilizer  , and the other one at the other side of the door does not have it.. And finally the first bud noticed. Pink cloud is taken the lead in my garden ….
In theory @newbie77 if they are the same gauge, fine to use Gardena fittings with the old hose if thats still ok but if you mix fittings the hozelock part can still leak. I use all Gardena, including hose.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
No photos to show , but I have large buds on Chandos Beauty ( which I probably didn't prune hard enough looking at it , but will just do a better job next year), and a few on Ab Fab. The donations from my moving-away neighbour (blush noisette and iceberg) slower and twiggier. Haven't fed roses yet but did ( horror) see black spotted leaves and plenty of aphids already....
I have finished pruning all the roses and find I need to move one, which is not liking its position at the end of the garden. Is it too late to move it now?
I don't want this gorgeous weather to end, like summer today and clocks change tonight.. 'Devoniensis' nice red foliage.. 'Eustacia Vye' has an attractive shape I think.. ..this 'Nye Bevan' I've decided to peg right and left, rather than cut back hard.. 'Elizabeth' I pruned hard and responding well to that.. others... my first Tulip, the only one I grow now, as it's perennial. 'Lady Jane' rather lonely but I do have clumps of it.. Helianthemum 'Fire Dragon'.. weeks early.. Rhodanthemum 'Tangiers' always in flower..

Swimming freely now.
