@Fire I love climbers too.. it feels like I am getting a better bargain with the huge sizes and number of blooms compared to shrubs.. not to mention the architectural element they provide.. I have stuck a couple of broken stems from storm Eunice in a pot so if they do take I will plant them at my allotment plot next year!

@Tack I have fewer roses in pots this year - as I have moved five to my allotment, chosen based on their performance over the last few years, I just felt like these five were itching to go in the ground. I do have three potted second year Eustacia Vye, Gabriel Oak and Tottering-by-Gently that I am looking forward to seeing this year.. the blooms were gorgeous last year and I am expecting at least double of the amount this year.

Going to clear some brambles this evening after work, will hopefully be able to post some photos of the mystery rose once I’ve done that! Couldn’t see any buds yet but it is a couple of feet taller than me!

Fire, your rose arch and garden are just perfect. Also love the colour of Odyssey. Lavender Lassie is that colour in NZ, but disappointing comes out a lot pinker here (still a nice rose though). I MIGHT have to try Odyssey!

@zugenie - what's the height off the ground of the bottom wire?

It looks low. I'd started the bottom wire at 45cm min off the ground and then space the others 30-35cm. You might be able to manage that without having to add extra wires.

Loosen the turnbuckles, slacken off the bolts on the wire anchors and reposition.

I've got larger spacing on the shed and one wall because the wires were set up for different plants originally that need that gap. It's ok, because you can tie rose canes to themselves, bend them down, cross them over. So you don't have to have close set wires.

Thanks for the EvS and TP appreciation soc 😊 Lots of gorgeous roses on this thread though, every one is temptation personified!

@zugenie my wires for climbers are 45cm apart, I read that was the ideal spacing somewhere, so I’m sure your 40cm spacing will be fine

I think many of us start off with DAs because their marketing is so good @celcius_kkw, then we discover there is a whole other rose world out there. There are some that have their problems but I wouldn’t be without them.

Climbers are really nice . I love to pamper and train them . I have 9 and no more space to add more. I was considering to do a tree rose but my OH stopped me 😀

We have constructed an arch for MH but the birds like it also … they drop constantly on the leaves…

That odyssey is really lovely. How tall does it get?

David Austin is indeed really strong in marketing, and understand the idea of selling a ‘dream’ . Although I really do not like their filter system on their website.

@Marlorena yes struggling on my east wall with mildew and black spot. Pink cloud has infected Guirlande ( the 2!) but Maria Lisa is still ok on the concerning wall.
I only spray water with milk  or potassium so trying to keep on top
watering more and cutting the most affected and deformed away

Curious how everything will evolve with everyone ‘s roses the coming days seen it will be everywhere in Europe warm.
