Paul Zimmermann used to be a stand up comedian, I think his wife still is.. I watch him sometimes and think he's about to burst into song at any moment...
So my new climbing rose (Clarence house) is showing its first flower bud. As I only planted it about 4 weeks ago should I remove the first buds (its about 12 inches) to let it establish more or sit back, let it do its thing and enjoy the show?
@ciaranmcgrenera, yes RR is a nice rose, easy to deal with and pretty much looks after itself. It's taking years to get it to any height through training it horizontally. I've seen them almost upright and it doesn't seem to have any effect on the flowering. At the moment I have clematis Skyfall on the top of the fence and Rambling Rosie on the bottom which is how they have arranged themselves.
Ha, not sure my influence spreads that wide, but great news for the UK that TW are bringing back some of the older DAs. I see they have WS2000 too, which they rate as having poor disease resistance. I got one as a basket filler recently so be interesting to see how it does. The Prince gets ‘moderate’ whereas I would say ‘very good’, since apart from a light touch of early season mildew it’s healthy here despite my BS pressures. My pick would be ‘Evelyn’.

So far no new Pheno Geno, but lots of Renaissance roses...
...I didn't put it there. When I took the picture I hadn't noticed it. Perhaps it's cuddling up for the night..Â
