I’m not sure why more people don’t grow ‘Wild Edric’, apart from the thorns which are brutal! But otherwise, it flowers early, continuously, is insect friendly, highly fragrant, tough, healthy…
Reine Victoria initially was troublesome, because it had low disease resistance(for me anyways), and weak growth that flopped to the ground…but I put it on an obelisk and it’s much better this year. It’s a beautiful rose, very feminine and delicate I feel. Â
@Omori ..my Reine Victoria flops around, I'm also thinking it needs an obelisk. Wild Edric is just lovely. If you want a rugosa type then I agree it should be on the short list.
Glad to see you are getting some roses through now @Omori, Wild Edric is beautiful, name and all. I would love to have him growing all over my untamed areas but the rugosa heritage would be problematic. Rugosas just seem to sulk and die here in my heat and/or alkaline soil, Hansa was deeply unhappy and I lost a hedge of Albas.
I’m not quite sure who they are referring to in ‘Loyal Companion’  since the breeder’s name implies it’s for the queen, her corgies? Herself? Prince Phillip? Names are important and can make or break a rose for some. I like Camilla, she looks like she would be great fun!
Well we have had a big temperature swing too, down to 16.5ºC and the parched, yellow ground is enjoying some much needed rain. Just as my rain-sensitive Soul and La Rose de Molinard are opening, of course! It’s not too heavy though and so far they are mostly holding up. Except, as I am typing, it’s now a massive full-blown monsoon and thunderstorm, so these are probably the last two intact blooms 😞Â
Soul:
La Rose de Molinard:
A tale of two Weeks, as in Week’s roses..
Love Song’s blooms are huge and mostly hanging on to their cool tones, but Ebb Tide’s are tiny and are rarely anything like purple here. LS is much more vigorous of the two, although they both suffer from some black spot, as all Weeks roses do for me, even Julia Child. LS left and ET right:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Rosa 'Bring Me Sunshine' finished 5th of the 20 short listed. 'Elizabeth' was 6th and 'Loyal Companion' was 10th. These were the only roses to make the list.
DA are in my bad books for sending me an email boasting about a gold medal without including a discount code.Â
I DID like the picture of Joan Collins, though. They should do a rose in her honour, I'd buy it- Breeder's Code AUSstud or AUSbitch? Boule de Neige looking nice after the rain.
Line todayGlad BMS is considered good at Chelsea, I am really looking forward to mine and the thread pics from the many others who succumbed to the new and shiny. Looks like Peter Beales put on a good show too with Gold and the RHS Chelsea President's Award.I hope we get a chance to see a decent amount of these stands on the TV.
Proper Job is overfilled but gets an easy wow from visitors.
My end of balcony planting is beginning to fill, I'll put a trellis on next year if I like it enough. Purple Skyliner and Snow Ballet. Both thanks to Edhelka's pictures.
