My 1st little flower, 'The Albrighton Rambler'. It usually produces some early non-typical blooms before its main flush in June. Previous years' 1st blooms were: 2021: no super-early flowers, 2020: 21/4, 2019: 30/4.
And some pots (Phenogeno 'Mileva', 'Blackberry Nip', daffodils 'Sophie Girl')
Thanks, everyone. @pitter-patter It's broken and bottomless, this felt like a good 2nd life for it. I can slot whatever seasonal pot I want in it. @Nollie I lost monardas which should be coming up on the right. Not a big gap but I want something red there. In the first year, they were nice. In the second, they moved and were still nice but disappeared from the original spots. Now they disappeared completely.
@edhelka lovely, I wouldn't have had that rose down as an early starter.. is your 'Marie Pavie' not ready yet? I found it very early to flower, by mid April.
@Marlorena 'Marie Pavie' had buds very early (like January) but it got windburnt a lot in February and March. It still doesn't look well. Although some buds will probably open soon anyway.
I’ve given Kiss Me Kate an ultimatum, if it doesn’t improve by the end of the year, it’s out.
I’ve checked on the thalictrum delavayi and there’s the slightest, tiniest new growth. Don’t give up on them yet @Fire. They’re really late and every spring I’m worried I’ve lost them. By August they will look again like this: a universe of entangled spheres hanging precariously out of reach.
..oh that's a shame Edhelka... I've got lots of wind damage here too, worse than frost, shredded leaves, buds decapitated etc.. ..looking around today 'Wild Rover' is always one of my best looking roses in Spring, and the short near thornless rambler 'Lilac Bouquet' is also looking good, recovering from a move... 'The Country Parson' and 'Kew Gardens' best of my Austins... 'Vanessa Bell' has been shredded a touch, right in a wind tunnel..
Most of my Old roses are looking good despite the wind..
..oh I've just seen the post above, beautiful Thalictrum... mine is just showing above ground now.. I've only got the one.. T. Rochebruneanum..
I think Beechgrove has a thalictrum forest. If I can get my slug deluge under control, I will plant some more thals, but they have to make it back the following year.
