@purplerallim get well soon! First time hubby and I have had it. Exhausted constantly.
Did a bit of retail therapy Primrose.com have a sale on roses, phenogeno are £12.99, so Ive ordered Dolce, exotic mella and morava reka to try. All compact patio types for the border out front or pots.
I think bridge of sighs snuffed it in heat and dry when I was ill, it looks very brown and crispy (not up to wading in border to check!) and waltz times coming out after it did this horrible balling like old tissues.. again, on its final warning!...its in the way of wild rover which isnt getting chance to establish, so out it comes to be rehomed and I will replace Bridge if its dead for the other side.
Tiny brave Armada is finally out... 5th August, first bloom. Maybe I'll get two next year. It's very pretty and looks just as a rose should in my head.Â
Dee-Lish is recovering after her defoliation and probably completely pointless treatment with milk solution (but it made me feel I was doing something lol)
Finally bit the bullet and bought an old DA called Heritage from TW in the sale. Seems to me the 80s was a strong decade for roses. I keep thinking, no more pink ones, and then...
I planted most I'd my roses last winter, but I have one 10 year old rose which has survived multiple uprootings and periods spent in pots. It was sold as odorata, the tea rose. It has a very strong fragrance which to me smells more like grenadine than tea. Certainly something alcoholic anyway. It has been more verdant and had more flowers this year than it has before, I think because I have been treating it as well as I have the first year roses.
For me it has a big flush at the end of May then rests for a while before starting again and flowering through to the first frosts, though less profusely than with the first flush.
Roses are in blooms again. Have been very busy with work and kids at home. Couldnt read posts and reply but looked and enjoyed all photos.
We live in an art-deco style flat roof house. I had thought about making a small rooftop garden by moving all pots there, but considering it would be difficult to water, I had dropped the idea.Â
Going away for two weeks to meet my mum. Hopefully everything will be ok when I am back.Â
@Nollie I tend to see these deeper colours on roses going into autumn. Although we're not into autumn yet the temperature here is at least 15 degrees cooler than when the heatwave was at its hottest, so perhaps the roses react to a drop in temperature, rather than the degrees showing on the thermometer? Whatever the reason, the result is pleasing to the eye.Â
You must be right Woodgreen and it’s the drop, but still very unusual to see deeper colours here so early and after only a couple of days just below 30c. We’re back to nudging 40 again, so I’m treasuring every bloom whatever the size or colour!

Sorry to see that Covid has been dreadful for some contributers, I do hope you recover fully soon.
That Love Song looks beautiful Nollie, I am so looking forward to mine, I have just the spot for it.
Gorgeous rose garden there Newbie, have a good break, fingers crossed we get some rain while you are away.
I think my pot roses are on the whole are the best they've been right now. It's been a funny year but while that extreme heat did damage the blooms that were open right then, it brought the shrubs on and the cooler dry weather has really suited. I shoud mention IÂ do water and feed a lot.
Here Charles Darwin, Munstead Wood, Snovit, Mme. Isaac Pereire, Olivia RA and Eglantyne.
I love this next rose and am so thrilled to have got it after seeing Marlorena's; Wild Rover. The colour is very difficult to capture but is an unusual smokey pink shading with wine and magenta out from a yolky centre. The scent wafts a long way, it varies from sweet tea to intense clove. These next 2 are thanks to wanting them after seeing Edhelka's photographs. The first, Snow Ballet has been disappointing up to now, 2-3cm with brown bits but now after I gave it more shade, the blooms 4-5cm and an unblemished white. Chippendale is a very succesful pot rose with extraordinary colour variations, dependent on temperature I think.First blooms of a new flush with lots to come on each of these. Dames de Chenonceau with the most delicious berry scent, Grafin Diana, Heidi Klum and Ebb Tide
Lovely roses everyone. I do feel I’m missing a Crown Princess Margareta in my life, among so many others..
Well I’m shocked! And celebrating 🥂 The weather at my altitude can change rapidly, but it’s just defied the forecast and gone from punishingly hot sun to a full-on thunderstorm and heavy monsoon rain (with hail) in the space of an hour. For once I don’t care that the roses are now battered to the ground or that Soul’s blooms will be ruined just as they are coming into flush. This rain has been a very, very long time coming.Â

The roses in the ground are okay here, it is the potted ones which are affected, mostly due to my irregular watering.
