Has anyone successfully planted bulbs in large pots that have a rose in?
Desdemona is in a huge pot and Iām just wondering if I could get away with planting something like Spring dwarf iris or crocus in there with it?
I'm doing the same this year with species crocus.Ā I'm hoping that the crocus won't take much from the soil and they won't be competing due to different times of year
The Smudge is looking like a cracker @Nollie and I like her green accessories.Ā Hope the older fellow relents soon.Ā I bet he was the resented youngster at some point
Ooh, I didn't realise I had the discount email, thanks @WhereAreMySecateurs.Ā It was attached to a back in stock email of a rose I already bought so didn't look at it.Ā I'd better get cracking...
I had some ominous inspiration earlier this week and added Lichtkonigin Lucia, a not particularly scented but rudely robust looking yellow to my TCL order.Ā I've long wanted this rose and it occurred to me that Chateau de Munsbach wasn't best placed in my harvest colours themed front garden so have decided to move it.Ā It starts off an icy lemon, then white but holds the aging flowers for a long time and they turn a mottled pink.Ā I could just chop them off but I don't want to, I think it is part of the grace of the rose. So that is getting moved as well as Munstead Wood due to its short stature and occasional pinkishness and my new La Villa Cotta due to its slight pinkishness and I will create a new triangulation from LkL, Red Letter Day (Beales) and Nadia Zerouali.
I also added Florence Delattre to the order and I have nowhere to put that.
Not much going on rose wise and to be honest I could do with a garden tidy-up and a climber tie-in undertaking.
Here's the lovely Grace, a hand held but still only in year 1
Summer Sweetheart.Ā A good value and easy to live with rose, this is the most out of control it gets.
After spending the past few weekends visiting relatives and attending functions, I have at last found some time to see my roses š Just a little bit of rain has triggered the reappearance of BS, but then it is nearing the end of this season, so not too bothered. No new rose orders so far, as I want to get the garden in better shape before I add any more. Here are a few photos from today:
Phew, DA confirmed today that my order for Strawberry Hill has in fact gone through, I was getting a bit anxious that I'd been pipped to the post!
I now need it to rain (a lot) before I dig the planting hole as it's pretty solid out there. I also need to dig another hole for my bare root Ghislaine de Feligonde some time soon and move the ferns that are currently in that space.
@Victoria Sponge your plans sound pretty epic! I LOVE that Grace rose. So dahlia-esque... but a rose.
I do hope to learn Italian one of these years, @dabolem. It sounds gorgeous to our ears.
Glad you got your confirmation, Lizzie
Wowed by everything but esp Darcey B and Macmillan Nurse, @Eustace
Just been browsing the Harkness site (going to replace an HT my puppy munched to ground when she arrived last January... better luck to your roses, @Nollieš¤š) and came across this description of a red HT, "Sophia Loren":
"Also of note is a strong, but pleasant and not very obsessive scent of flowers."

Funny how we create mental images of each other, I will happily be a 30yr old Lady if it comes with the ancient title, piles of money and huge country estate. Iām sure my wife would be game too š
All this talk of new rose orders is making my fingers twitchy.Ā Iām still debating whether to place a Lens order, I could certainly find the requisite 3 to justify the postage, although finding the space in the garden is quite another matter.
@Imprevu I know you rate Lens, do you or anyone you know have Marcās Jubilee? Any reviews anyone is aware of? Any suggestions in general for must-have Lens roses?
Here is Marc..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Aw, that one was on my Lens wish list, along with Smiling Sun, Edouard Vermeulen and a red one, the name of which escapes me.Ā Be interested to read a review.
I'm a bit suspicious as all 4 of the roses I had on my wishlist from DA are already out of stock.Ā I didn't think they were hugely popular roses so am inclined to believe they perhaps didn't come back into stock at all...
I've done a quick rethink and if I do a bit of a shuffle around (some were for fence coverage) I can just a buy a couple more from TCL and be done with it.
Here's a couple of flowers from a potted small climber I ordered from JTR, Perfume(d?) Dreams.Ā Small flowers, a creamy/buttery yellow not white as shown.

and finally, another lady who has been flowering continuously throughout this season, Lady of Shalott.

Style have redone their website and I can not longer use it on my phone. This will save me even more money.
