Is it best to remove these things from around my roses. They're very invasive and a bit of a mare to get rid of to be honest as I've been trying for years but they keep coming back. And they can grow quite large if left.
I’ve had a major aphid busting day. In the morning I did some overhead watering to knock them off the potted roses and Lady of the Lake, and in the afternoon I went about the garden squishing as many as I could find.
I didn’t take a photo but you would be shocked by the colour my hand turned! Took a lot of washing out.
We’re meant to be having a bit of rain tomorrow for the first time in weeks.
My saw fly are much in evidence. Aphids and hoppers too. I find they favour lower leaves in my garden. New Mustead Wood and ramblers are coming on well, though it won't be until next year that they do much. But I'm glad to have them. Edith Clavell and Flanders Rose, I'm not sure about yet. It looks like our last frost of the year was 13th April (fingers crossed) and this put us well ahead of last year. A load of rain and everything in the garden will go nuts. We've had a bone dry March and April. Come on rain!
@newbie77 - for me it doesn’t grow much or flower much! But it is third year now and has a few buds on it already. I think...was hard to tell under the aphids and Munstead is a tricky one to rub them off.
Aphids galore here, ordered some ladybird larvae and keep releasing the overwintering ones from the front out the back! Sparrows helping eat the aphids too. Buds galore too, munstead doing well, so is mme Antoine Maari which I have in a sunny spot like @Marlorena did and its covered in buds. No buds open yet so race for which will be first amongst them all. Expecting some aphid damage.
Wisteria over pergola starting to open, right on the verge of bursting out! If you zoom you can see how long they are. Dosent block light, does help stop some of the intense heat there so I grow courgettes in the top section. Leftover bulbs got put in here, love the look so will decant to pots after flowering and repeat next season. Blushing beauty narcissus are lovely. My gorgeous spring sensation flowering socks off... Ive got zephrine droughin, the worlds sickliest rose (...) and the new first climbing hulthemia orienta aladdin on pergola side. I think I will move Zephrine to the right side of the fence to see if that helps it. Aladdins leafing well. Glossy limey green. My beloved Sweet Syrie covered in buds with glossy healthy leaves as usual. Brother Cadfael leafing and budding nicely too. Its not shiny like Syrie but has lovely red hints too. Im very fond of both.
Lovely day yesterday, followed by rain all night but I suspect it wasn't too heavy. A windscreen scraping level frost on Friday so allsorts going on.
Many of my roses are variously afflicted by aphids, caterpillars and I assume thrips but other than a few that I had allowed to become neglected in some way I am not concerned. It is probably against the rules but I have already put 5 roses on a liquid feeding regime just to try and boost them. I saw a wasp patrolling Ness, I assume for aphids but it appeared the area had already been cleared as I couldn't find one and neither did the wasp.
No blooms but for the most part roses are looking pretty bountiful. Here are some of them hanging out with the other plants.

You might have colourful fingers, but you must admit it's a rather satisfying preoccupation to have.Â
