I've grown Dusky Maiden. I don't recall noticing much in the way of brown in it, but it had the most luscious velvety, dark red blooms with large, coppery tinged, dark green leaves. To die for, as they say. But the problems started in late summer when it caught what seemed every rose disease possible, and from which it never recovered, even with all the TLC the following year, so alas it had to go.

Interesting. Thanks @peteS - I wonder if Dusky Maiden is known for bad health or you had bad luck. Trevor says she has good disease resistance. I could enjoy going copper.

I've often thought that @Fire. I bought mine from Beales, who's photos do a good job of showing the actual colour and lustre of the blooms. I have been thinking of trying again and buying one from Trevor White, who if I'm honest is now my first choice supplier.

lovely healthy roses @purplerallim. Your red standard is amazing and that "pretty flower" is very pretty.  Will look even better once that Dahlia is flowering.

That Dahlia "happy days" I thought was dead @newbie77 it was in there all winter, and had planned to put in my Little Leo sunflowers ( still too small to go out yet) but will have to find a new home for them. I love the dark foliage of this Dahlia, makes the flowers pop.
