@cooldoc I find the soil level drops in pots anyway, so I scrape a bit away annually before topping up but don’t remove very much. I think I would be slightly wary of digging holes to plant bulbs in established pots because of the fine feeder roots. If I were planting new, potting on or bare rooting over winter to replant in the same pot I wouldn’t worry and might be overthinking it anyway!
I do remember Marlorena saying daffs have a deleterious allopathic effect on roses so maybe avoid those?
ETA - I think I would’ve gone for Strawberry Hill too @Lizzie27, since Armada is scentless - maybe a good one for the back of a border though.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
that thing about Daffodils is new to me.. something to keep in mind..
I kinda like the colour of Strawberry hill.. that pink is subtly different from the usual pinks.. bonus of being strongly scented..Â
@WhereAreMySecateurs should have taken more cuttings of LEH and Munstead wood, just so that I could have sold them in "Grey Market".. My Own root Munstead is happily flowering away despite being a small pencil thick stem..
Took lunch and had a full day at the allotment. I got a lot of work done. Clearing nettles, old stumps, weeding and cutting back the grass. Got a new area dug and planted some comfrey cuttings.
I've decided to move The Ancient Mariner to the plot, as it's not doing great in the garden, think it's not fond of its crowded shaded corner.
Give it another chance in a new setting.
Here's Arthur Bell at the plot Hips
Unfortunately I lost most of my rose seedlings over summer. But there's one survivor (from Malvern Hills)
Nice to see your posts @Omori and @JessicaS. Congratulations @Mr. Vine Eye. Lovely selection @Rojas and loving the cuddly puppy photos @Nollie. Lots going on in personal life and work so unable to post properly. But I try to have some time to read posts and enjoy your rose photos everyday.Â
Not sure whoever have bought so many of LEH and Munstead woods would be actually happy with those in long term unless they have enormous gardens or are going to resell them. They are good roses but they do have drawbacks too.Â
Good to see realistic photos of Bring me sunshine on DA siteÂ
@Lizzie27 - that’s grown from seed rather than a cutting and yes it’s far too small to plant out, only just transferred from a 7cm to a 9cm pot.
With yours, if they’re well rooted in the pot, then I’d repot into something larger until spring. If they’re not very rooty yet then I’d leave them as they are for now.
@newbie77 I hate it how work always explodes right now and then there's back to school madness coupled with markedly shorter evenings- gardening time just vanishes. I have things in bloom but can't photograph them in daylight hours.
Beautiful and interesting roses everyone, you make me want to buy more and more roses every time I look at this thread!
@Nollie I too was convinced you were a lady! And that puppy, soooo cute, we in Italy would say she is “to eat with kisses” .
I too didn’t find MW available, but I already have 14 new hole to dig in the garden coming October and maybe that’s for the best.
it’s raining here, but my roses decided they don’t want to flower anymore it seems; the weren’t even fed or deadheaded so I think they are on a strike, lol.

Of course they may have been just a trifle busy since lunchtime!

I've got two in similar pots which I'm unsure what to do with now.Â

Just sidestepped DA and ordered Graham Thomas from TW, with a new addition called Lisa- looks nice.

Dropped the idea of buying anything for mulching. Our refrigerator hasn't been working properly for a while, need to save up for replacing that!
