Deep sympathies, dabolem. That must be disheartening. I moved my potted hydrangea from partial shade to what I thought was full shade yesterday- that one very hot day we had in England- and all the lovely healthy leaves were spoilt anyway. In just one day  It must be impossible in relentless heat such as you experience.😪
Please can somebody advise about choice of roses for a south facing cottage wall? We are looking for a climbing/rambling rose (not sure of the difference) and would like to place one either side of the kitchen window. Should we go for two of the same variety or two different varieties? Should we have different colours and, if so, what colour combinations would work well? The height would need to be about 10-15 feet. We would like a repeat flowering rose. The wall is painted white. We have a very old red rose on the other side of the house and there would be a porch separating that and the new roses. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
@Fire I was sure I had already done that thank you for pointing that it was not the case. Now it should be visible, I hope
@WhereAreMySecateurs yes, in the latest years it’s been hard here for hydrangeas and azaleas, actually I was already thinking about put them out but this hot wave did it now. From now on I will only have plants resistant to heath and dry, until I will decide to move to somewhere like… I don’t know.. Alaska maybe, lol
DAs have started their second flush, most of the flowers smaller and flatter. I was waiting for rain to feed them; rain is forecast tomorrow. Hopefully it will drench the roots. Munstead Wood, Summer Song (still suffering from the heat), Crown Princess Margareta, Roald Dahl and Tess of the d'Urbervilles. Gertrude Jekyll, Darcey Bussel, Golden Celebration, Susan William Ellis, queen of Sweden, Eustacia Vye, Young Lycidas, Desdemona and Olivia Rose Austin.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
Now that's a long list Nollie.. I am not making assumptions now (will see how they cope with rain) and few will be given a second chance.. as I have seen some roses do much better on their second year..
Yesterday I had a feeling of being on a holiday.. with the fresh cool breeze.. max temps of 22.. never thought I would enjoy an overcast day so much.. today its much colder and I am already missing the sun..Â
@Tack, I like how clematis has climbed up the obelisk and going on your balcony.
@edhelka, your garden is looking beautiful, lovely combinations.Â
Not many flowers in my garden, everything has sort of gone dormant. There is good foliage/basal growth though. Since I have mostly Austins it could be third year thing or they are loving extra sunshine. None are in full sun, house and trees give shade. I should check at afternoon too which would be sunniest time.
@dabolem that’s really tough to have those temperatures late into the evening, poor you! At least here, surrounded by forests and 340m above sea level, the cooler evenings offer some relief. However, the scorching daytime temperatures continue, due 40c again tomorrow.
Golden Beauty - I don’t often show this rose because I’m not in love with it, the blooms are unremarkable and scentless, plus they do start to crisp by the end of the day. BUT, massive credit to it for continuing to bloom well during this scorchio heat. One tough cookie!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.

Amazing standard, Edhelka. Is that Super Excelsa?

Boule de Neige has got a bit smaller with the heat but its fragrance has intensified. Love its peachy tones just nowÂ
Eustacia Vye is coming out again... did not rest for very long. I adore the colour of the buds.
Think I have been overfertilising or overwatering Adam Messerich as he's going a bit yellow. Going to leave him be for a bit.
LofS has finally stopped blooming (lots of new sideshoots poking out though) so I am going to try and sneak an obelisk onto her tonight.Â
