Whiter Shade of Pale. The first bloom going over after torrential rain yesterday but the house is benefitting from the beautiful perfume! Colour is pretty accurate and a lot paler than when it first opened.
First flower from Golden Anniversary. The bush is covered in buds which I tried to photograph but the flowers cause quite a glare. Nandina in the corner and Philadelphus 'Manteau d' Hermine' in the background. (Sorry it's out of focus - need more practice!)
@edhelka I am curious about Crepuscule, I heard the blooms don't last long, either in sun or in rain. Do you have to clean them yourself after they fade? How does it perform for you?Â
Yes, they don't last long. It's a vigorous and relatively healthy rose. It should do much better in warmer climates than it does for me - there, the number of blooms and the length of the flowering season counter the short life of individual blooms. I grow it for its tea rose character (it is a tea-noisette but the growth habit is more tea-like, it layers onto the previous growth, doesn't produce new canes). It also has a very strong tea fragrance which is really like black tea and unlike any other rose I have. I recommend checking the photos from warmer places on Help me find. I can never grow this to its full potential here. At the moment (with the rose not being too big), I deadhead, but I won't when it gets bigger. The petals fall down cleanly when it's dry but stick when it's wet.
@Marlorena, thanks for that extra advice re the posts. I'm not so sure now that the fence panel would do the job - I rather think it might just lean forward too with the weight of the flower sprays. I'll try to post a photo tomorrow perhaps to show you the situation I've got.Â
I'm encouraged by your enthusiasm for the new rose 'Elizabeth' as my sister has promised it for my birthday. The previous reviews hadn't been so encouraging.
Elizabeth is a beauty and I am reconsidering my republican stance. But then, Fragrant Rose Company has potted Eustacia Vyes for only £18.95... seems a steal unless I'm missing something.
ETA these two Rose des Cisterciens blooms are staring at me through the kitchen window, for all the world like two gossipy old ladies.
many thanks for the detailed explanation, i didn't know that about tea roses, in fact i have no experience with this class. What you are saying about the fragrance intrigues me, I should get it just for that! 😅 As we have very long and warm autumns, it should do well for me! funny that you mention black tea, I have just experimented with mixing black tea and some Isaac Pereire petals, i am curious how it will turn out when it dries.Â
Can someone help me out here please, if you have 'Bring Me Sunshine' rose.
I'm a bit puzzled. Cooldoc has posted pictures of his rose on HMF but it looks different to mine, the foliage and growth habit do not look the same, but it may be due to the lighting I'm not sure. Can you just have a quick look at my photos below and let me know if this looks like the one you have or not.  I can't imagine they would get these mixed up.. Thanks..
..also look at the thorns.. . and also the stipule.. if yours has these tiny little eyelashes on each side, and small little prickles going along the stem.
