Is it me? They keep on introducing someone on Radio 4 as ' a neater rani' - compared to who, who judges and why compare in the first place? Fancy being introduced as ' a tatty rani'...
    And what's a rani anyway?

I've no idea how Anita Rani (I first saw her on Countryfile  - but she is totally up her own a***) got on Radio Four. She should be on Radio Zero at best!!

I agree @steveTu. I do wonder, if an older male presenter had had an affair with a younger female colleague (or even vice-versa) and lied about it, there would be so much fuss. Yes it's wrong to have affairs if you're not single or not in an open sort of relationship, and it's wrong to lie, but as long as both parties are consenting adults I don't really see a problem with the affair itself. I guess there's maybe something about it that I don't know, not being a reader of the tabloid press, coercion or something?

@steveTu my wife asked the same question.  If various stories over the years are to be believed (big IF) he's not the most likeable of people, but that doesn't justify totally destroying him.  The media is now so powerful that it can destroy a person's character and life for any reason or none.
As you say, a large number of politicians over the years, and more than a few in recent years, have made a habit of lying and denial even when there is solid evidence against them.  They all seem to have survived, and possibly prospered from their infamy.
