The windscreen people are due today any time between 8am and 5pm. No sign yet. So that's a day wasted 😡

It drives me mad too @Allotment Boy I don't understand why they can't at the very least say AM or PM.  Back in the day when customer service actually mattered to them, British Gas would give a 2 hour time slot for annual service time.  If it looked like sliding outside that slot the engineer would call to let you know.  Them wuz the days!

They are supposed to be texting when they are on their way,  but as you say am or pm would have been more helpful.

Texting when they are on their way is really no help at all is it?  You can't go out in case they text and say they'll be there in 20 minutes.

My washing machine is due to be delivered some time tomorrow between 7 am and 7 pm. They are supposed to be texting me at 6.30 am to give me a two hour slot. Yeah, right, there's no way I shall be awake at 6.30 and I doubt very much whether they'll be on the doorstep at 7 am. Fingers crossed anyway!

Hope your chappie has turned up @Allotment Boy.

If you wanted them to be early they wouldn't be, but sod's law says they'll be knocking on the door bright and early.

Have your dressing gown and slippers where you can find them quickly @Lizzie27 😉

No it was a no-show. I  called and asked to be booked in to the local depot,  but the young chap on line couldn't do it . Someone is supposed to be calling me back! I  want a timed slot at the branch so I don't waste another day.

Couldn't sleep so I got up and did an online shop instead.  Hopefully I'll get back to bed soon.

    Suella Braverman.

Can someone explain immigration control to me? Wasn't it Cameron who said that they aimed to cut net migration down to tens of thousands (inbound)? Last year we had 500,000+ net immigration (presumably of which circa 50,000 were 'illegal' (although if someone can define illegal in this case - I would appreciate it)). Then on the other hand, we are told we lack human resource. Does that mean that 500,000 immigrants is too few? Who are these 500,000 (450,000 legal)? Were they all vetted to ensure they were people we needed? Did they score points? If not, can someone explain the difference between an illegal and legal immigrant in way of what this country needs? Doi we need 500,000+ per year?...400k?...200k...10k?

Rwanda was going to stop the illegal immigration as it was going to send a message to the migrants saying it wasn't worth the hassle of coming here as they'd be shipped straight out again. That worked well then. Now, they've upped the fear factor. Come here and you'll be banned for life - and held without recourse to the courts - before being sent somewhere (anywhere?).

I still think that there's something so immoral about all of this anyway. The west has for centuries exploited poorer countries. When the world was pink, what limitations were there on UK citizens travelling to the Empire to gain wealth and better their lot? Any? How many English, Irish, Scots (even Welsh) travelled the world?
Even in my life time, I've seen big corporates exploit wage differences around the globe to create wealth in the west.
Then when people, from outside this privileged club, want to come here to try to better themselves they are told 'it's our ball and you can't play - be off with you and don't darken our doorstep again'. Johnny Foreigner eh? Nasty, nasty foreigners. I wonder what they thought of us?
