I planted my runners very late, they are cropping well-sorry! I had already enjoyed bumper crops of climbing French beans. If you have space it pays to hege your bets, I have said before I always plant both now, that way you get something whichever way the season goes.
I planted both. The deer preferred the french, when they had gone she had the lower leaves off the runners. She has also had the rows of gladioli I put in for cutting.
Because of the risk of late frosts I always plant mine late too but, consequently, mine have lots of flowers but I know they won't do anything. I'll concentrate on climbing French beans next year. I know that they freeze well.
