It took my daughter two or three weeks to get it almost completely back.

Just tried online to book an eye test with the opticians at a famous pharmacy chain. Each time I pressed the Confirm button, I was redirected back to the previous screen which had a note saying my preferred appointment time was no longer available. A bit of a coincidence, I thought, so I tried an alternative time. When this happened for the third time, I checked my emails to find confirmation of all the appointments I’d tried to book! Then had to go through them cancelling the ones I didn’t want. They don’t make it easy!

@wild edges - a couple of months ago, my younger daughter got a horrible virus [presumably from a customer at work] which she kindly shared with me. The tests were negative, but all the symptoms were like Covid - headaches, cold/very sore throat, and then the loss of taste and smell. We were both unwell for about 4 weeks. I wasn't due my booster till the following month, but I wonder if it actually was Covid rather than another virus because the effect of the vaccine would be wearing pretty thin by then.
It was hard to have any desire to eat, and I had no idea how much spice etc I was adding to dishes. Oh well - we both survived ;)

Unfortunately, I'd just starting sorting out our drive. I had put a new concrete edging in and had two tons of gravel to shift. Just as well I don't give in easily... :D

Well why didn't you send me a pm and I'd have come up to help? It's quite a jolly jaunt oop north.

    Very kind of you   :)
My sister said why didn't I ask her. If you knew my sister, you'd know why. She'd have arrived at 4 or 5pm, having called into some shop first to return something, and then I'd have needed to supply her with several cups of tea/coffee first.... ;)

I don't like leaving my car out on the road, so I really wanted to get it done within a couple of days. The weather wasn't exactly helping either!

I'm all for diversity but allowing the blind and braindead to drive is taking it too far.  I was heading into town earlier and, when stopped in the queue at traffic lights at a major crossroads, it was clear that traffic ahead was not moving.  In fact traffic was already backed up partially blocking lane one of three.  That didn't stop the muppets in front of me merrily driving across when the lights changed, thereby blocking all 3 lanes.
  • They must be visiting from round here then, we get a lot of that. Just this morning,  the road I'm on crosses the A41, it's clearly backed up , but just like yours the muppets, pull across blocking our way across.  3changes of lights to get away.

There are three reasonable routes from my town to the next. One of the roads is closed due to hospital rebuilding. One has just had an overturned tractor trailer (load looks like soil, possibly manure). The third has on going roadworks with traffic lights. The traffic lights, both ways, have been permanently fixed on red for over a day now. Many people have complained to many 'responsible parties' with the reply that it's 'failed safe' and it will be attended to. Well, somebody's attended to it alright. There are now pillowcases over each light. Fairly nice floral pattern too.

Shall I lob my laptop and printer through the nearest window? Instant gratification is not always a bad thing. It would be SO gratifying. I think I should open the window first. Less satisfying but more sensible, I suppose.

Ah the Putin solution. Defenestrations for all who refuse to cooporate.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
