I imagine it's very hard to protect the pay by card machines in isolated car parks from people swapping the scanner for a skimmer.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    What does that mean?

  • The crooks put a device on the card reader that "harvests"all your card data including the pin no if you have put that in. They then empty your bank account.

@wild edges   This happened to me a few weeks ago, except it was with my MacBook. (6 years old) The light on the charger wasn't coming on - panic!!  I took it in to the After Sales Service to have both the charger and the computer checked and it was quite simply a bit of gunge.  I tend to take my laptop into the kitchen when I am cutting and cooking, so it was inevitable.

Take heed.  Big problem small solution!!

That's the one @AnniD.  It would seem there problems continued overnight as they didn't announce that the restaurant was open until late this morning.  They must have lost a fortune yesterday as the restaurant is always packed on Sunday.
  • Interesting,  there is a  CG /nursery in Enfield that has done the same thing ( gone card only).  I am surprised as I remember pre covid I  was there and the card machines were down,  they were asking if anyone could pay cash.  I  have noted before that the mobile phone signal is very poor in that area too. Seems a little risky especially as they are quite traditional,  only sell garden related items no café etc.

I thought that might be the case @KT53. One of my neighbours used to go there and spend quite a bit of money, and always had lunch in the restaurant .
When they announced they were going card only he was proper miffed. Although he used a card sometimes, he said it was the autocratic way it was announced that really annoyed him (and me as well).
We both wondered what would happen if they lost the Internet connection, and now we know.
