I think I have a painted lady? I saw it there yesterday around 5 and it hasn't moved since. It selfishly won't open its wings to let me get a better look.
  • A couple of Rainbow Leaf Beetles (I think!) are also on the same plant today...

The Rainbow Leaf Beetle is very rare. What you probably have is the Rosemary Beetle, which is a lot less rare than it should be. https://www.naturespot.org.uk/species/rosemary-beetle
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

@wild edges, I was going to leave them be...Do they need evicting? Could they be responsible for larvae in Lavender flower buds, wrapping leaves around them?

Also, could the orange beetle I posted on page 15 be a younger chap?

The leaf wrapping is likely to be a moth caterpillar and could be a light brown apple moth or similar tortrix species. Hard to say without seeing one though.
I'm not sure about the orange beetle. It looks like a ladybird but I can't think of one that would be all orange like that.

@DeterminedNovice you need to evict rosemary beetles, they are pretty but I think they may decimate your plant.

I found another ghost slug. This time about 10 miles from my house but separated by 3 valleys. I'm either very lucky or it's not as rare as people suggest.

A day of highs and lows for insect bothering today. Lots of missed photos of things I wanted to record but I finally trapped some moths I've wanted to see for ages, and then I also got stung on the face by an angry tree bumblebee. :# I'm still sorting out photos but I like the shadow in this one. The inexplicably titled Triple Striped Piercer.

I forgot about this one. Matsumyia (formally Criorhina) berberina. I thought it was a tree bumblebee and was trying to help it escape the greenhouse until I noticed it was a fly.
