Now this is the oddest little hoverfly - Rhingia campestris. I apologise for the rather grainy photos, I only see it at sunset when the light is fairly poor. It seems to favour cow dung for its offsping - they've found a good spot then, a flower filled garden surrounded by cow pasture!

And then feeding. I question now if other flies, hover or not, have this remarkable way of feeding. I've never seen it before and I've been photographing insects for years.
Sorry to post again pics of same old peacock butterflies; but that's all the visitors I have at the moment. Still attracted to my Hylotelephium spectabile but also, for a change, to my Calamintha nepeta...

Really like the Brimstone @Alan Clark2 in Liverpool the light coming through the wings makes the shot.
I had another looking for a nest hole this afternoon, very close to an existing nest by the backdoor.
