Gosh, you're right @LunarSea! I had just assumed and not looked properly. Naughty step for me!
Me too @NormandyLiz. I've just checked the photo we took and ours was a Small Tortoiseshell too. You'd think with all the excitement of a BBC wildlife documentary I'd have remembered! 😳 Blue dots!
Ok, so who is this and give me a (very) good reason why he should not be evicted from my precious kalettes? Bearing in mind I lost all my other brassicas this year to weevils, and had to work hard to save the kalettes, he has to be super special.
This amazing little thing appeared on my friends phone, I took a photo of it with my phone trying to zoom up as it was tiny it was crawling around quite fast so it was hard to get it in focus. I don’t know where it came from but its camouflage was amazing looking like the lichen on trees but with legs!
Some sort of mite? It would be interesting if anyone has seen one before or what it is? We were in a wooded area at the time. I wonder how many little things are living out there we don’t know about?
I’m quite new to trying to identify insects and find that some websites have conflicting photos and information, or it might just be variations in the same species. For example, is this photo a Bombus bohemicus or a Bombus vestalis. Do you have any recommendations of websites you use for identification please? Thank you.

I have no, good or otherwise, reasons for you to keep or dispatch.
Hey @NormandyLiz, we all do that from time to time, especially when concentrating on the camera
I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
